Anyone know if Bury Market is operating as normal? Their website says the indoor market is closed due to aerated concrete issues, yet the trip advisor reviews etc seem to suggest everything is normal.

I'll be up that way next month and have aways fancied going, especially to the food stalls for the Black Pudding and Eccles cakes etc, but not if they aren't there.

Well some 12 months later and I am finally visiting Bury Markets tomorrow. on my way to Rochdale.

I'll be getting an early morning train from Sheffield into Manchester Piccadilly and then the Yellow tram line to Bury.
Will have a mooch around, buy some black pudding, a Manchester tart, some Chorley cakes and Eccles cakes. I hear there's such a thing called a whinberry pie that turns your mouth purple?
Might get some lunch at the Turkish cafe for something a bit different.

Then the bus to Rochdale to pick up my sons car that's at a garage there, and drive home.

This is how to live biggrin

Had a nice bimble around the markets this morning, with a nice full English breakfast at one of the cafes which was only £4.75. Went into another cafe later in the morning for a cuppa and a Manchester tart. What I noticed int he cafes was how folk chat to each other and to the waitresses, not something I see everywhere, just nice Northern folk passing the time of day with each other.

Bought a few too many cakes and pies, but they are lovely, especially the Chorley cakes from the Harry Muffin stall. Bought some black pudding from both of the stalls selling it. The butchers stalls in the indoor meat & fish market looked impressive with the flavoured meats for BBQ's etc.

With a bit of time to kill whilst waiting for the bus to Rochdale I had a brief walk around the town centre, and same again at Rochdale before collecting my car from a nearby garage where it had been having maintenance work, then a drive back home to Sheffield. Nice day out if you like that kind of thing,
