Mk3 Focus ST - Petrol or Diesel?

New car time. Budget £12k. We used to have a diesel ST3 estate which we stupidly sold on to get a Velar! Anyway, time for me to get a new daily and I enjoyed the ST so much I'm thinking of getting another. I was wondering about the petrol version this time though.... basically I need to get 25mpg on average and I've been out of petrols for so long (company cars for the last 8 years) I have no idea if this is feasible?
Also, are ST's still going missing regularly? Would having a diesel and possibly an estate mitigate this risk?
No intention to modify in case thats a factor. I would love SYNC3 and carplay, but I cant see it happening on a £12k budget sadly.
