Hi

I am currently using a Road Angel Gem which works very well. It seems to know the fixed and mobile camera sites, it also times me through SPECS areas.

I'm looking to change me car in the not too distant future and thinking I would prefer not to have the Road Angel sitting on the dash - its not an attractive unit.

I tried CamerAlert which connected through Bluetooth so nothing on the dash which was great but it seemed to warn me of anywhere a policeman or camera ever stood. I was being warned of something every 2-3 minutes which was just annoying. I then tried Waze but never succeeded in getting it to work through the car Bluetooth also are the speed camera alerts reliable?

What are other PHers using?

The database from pocketgpsworld (cameralert) is probably the best database if you can put up with the warnings. The cost of it would be a lot less than your roadangel subscription. Depends how accurate the roadangel is with its smaller alerts.

Waze is OK but not very widely used in the UK (unlike the US) so not many live reports from users I wouldn't rely on it with live cameras.
I don't have a problem with the subscription cost.

I don't agree with your view that pocketgpsworld is the best database though. As far as I can see they have just recorded every site any plod or camera van has ever been to make a massive but imo not terribly useful database.

I've been using the Gem+, which was a warranty replacement for my Pogo Alert. Like you, I'd prefer a more integrated solution, ideally something running on CarPlay through my iPhone.
That's exactly what I'm thinking but if the Snooper includes a camera detector and dash cam I can at least reduce the clutter from 2 to just one item.

Apologies if you've already tried this but worth checking: have you turned-off sound warnings for "Mobile" & "Unverified" cameras in the app? For me that cuts out all of the annoying alerts and leaves just the actual cameras. I find the quality of the PocketGPS data to be pretty good, although the CamerAlert app lets it down.
Thanks for that, I will give it a try.

I thought I would bump this thread as I'm trying 'CamerAlert' again. No too bad and not so many alerts this time.

I did have a problem when I stopped for about 5 minutes and did not realise that the IPhone had gone onto standby. Unbeknown to me that stopped the app from working so no alerts.

Anybody know how to stop this from happening? The phone was connected to the car so charging but I guess cut off when the ignition was off. When I activated the iPhone again the app was still showing me at the location where it had cut out.
