I went into my local Honda dealer today (St Albans) to put a deposit on a new Type R and was told that they are not taking any more deposits. They have over 40 deposits and don't believe they can fulfil those orders. I questioned this on the basis that the cars haven't started arriving and presumably there will be a production run of several years but the sales guy was pretty clear that he expected the whole production run to be sold out.

The only ray of light was that he said when the price is announced this week, they may see some depositors drop off the list.

I know cars are in short supply but based on my experience, it appears that Honda Type R has moved into the same market as Porsche GT products.

If anyone knows a Honda dealer in the South East that is prepared to take a deposit on a new Type R then I would be grateful for a heads up.

Are any of these cars coming through with the option packs, such as carbon, or are they all "base" cars?

Are many people still waiting on an allocation of an Civic Type R FL5 or has demand now been met due to the general downturn.

I am still waiting but I understand that I am now 2nd in line at my selected dealer (in Scotland and I live in Hertfordshire). I started out at No 7 a year ago about the time I started this thread.

So just over a year after starting this thread I have secured a brand new FL5 Type R in Championship White and I even secured a small discount. The car will be delivered to the dealer in January and I will collect it on 1st March. I am very pleased with the outcome. smile

Yes, it does feel like the supply side has increased or more likely that demand has now been satisfied.

I will be taking delivery of my FL5 on 1st March. I wanted to ask specific experiences on the FL5 of PPF or the performance of the standard paint. I am a big fan of the Xpel Ultimate product and I have it fitted in full to several cars.

I would particularly like to know what experiences other people have had with the FL5. Is the paintwork generally quite good or is it prone to damage? Are there any especially vulnerable areas? How do the edges of the wheel arches cope and the side skirts?

I am thinking about just a front end PPF (using Xpel Ultimate) but I could be persuaded to go full PPF if others think it would be beneficial. I hope that the Type R will be a long term keeper doing only 2k to 3k miles per year.

Thank you for any advice.

Thank you V8RMD. I have a guy who details my cars for me and we are going to buy a front end DIY PPF kit and then fit it together. If it works then happy days. If it is a lash up then I haven't lost too much. I pick my car up next Friday so very much looking forward to getting it. I have never even sat in one before! smile
