Really?

It's still got the M3/4 grille on it and is covered in camo' tape for a start..
The grille IRL isn't so bad but agree it looks awful in pics - but looks like it will really shift!

It looks/sounds as sick as any other M4...so nothing particularly 'extra sick' just because it's got a CSL tag.

I'll wait for the M4 GTS Nürburging Full Carbon Full Electric edition with swan neck wing and canards on the front wink
Haha - no GTS anymore. I think it looks like it will really shift. I think it would be a lot of fun!

Every one i've seen 'IRL', whether M3/M4/M440whatever, yes they are really that bad. Plus given how few of them i've seen around here compared to F8x models when they were released would tend to suggest that everyone else is still able to see clearly how fking ugly the cars are.

Would honestly take an F80/F82/M2 Comp and leave this latest 4wd batch to those that need the extra capability, couldn't pay me to drive one of the latest ones. As someone who's been a stalwart of BMWs since the 60s/70s, this latest generation of cars are so far removed from the brand's core values they may aswell be Audis/Mercedes - a load of homogenised crap.

So go on then, what's this 'sick' M4 CSL going to weigh - as little as 1600kg...? rofl
I think it looks fine IRL, but let's agree to disagree. F80 / F82 got a lot better towards the end of their life and the M2 Comp is brilliant.

The E92 M3 weighed 1580kg, so wasn't exactly lightweight at a time when BMW made brakes out of milk bottle tops. The new M3 is genuinely awesome to drive - so if the CSL is 100kg+ lighter, it should be brilliant.

Do you work in BMW Marketing by any chance?
Haha - no. But I am surprised that there aren't more car enthusiasts in the M power section of PH. I mean the M5 CS won EVO COTY and if this thing really weighs about 300kg less than that, isn't that something that people like us should be excited about?

Well 'sick' is certainly one way to describe it.
Haha - I think with a number plate IRL, it looks OK. Better than an Alfa Giulia Cloverleaf with a number plate in any case!

I'm personally a big fan of the turbocharged M4's, so I'm looking forward to seeing what this will be like. I've had the S54 NA in a E85 Z4M, and the S65 NA in a E92 M3, and for me personally those engines didn't suit their kerbweight all that well.

I much prefer BMWs turbo engines in their M cars, because they help to hide their weight, and the torque really helps to offset the weight I reckon. The M cars with the NA engines only feel quick right at the top of revs, whereas the turbo M cars feel quick everywhere across the rev range in comparison for me.
Yeah - that's very true - my E92 M3 only felt truly quick past 6,500rpm. So you had to be really pushing it to get the most out of it. I loved that engine though!

Yes and it is a cracking engine for sure! thumbup

I'd really love to experience that engine in a lighter car though. I've always wondered what the S65 V8 would've been like in something like the Cerbera I had, because that only weighed around 1200kg.

The induction noise from the S65 is heavenly I reckon. cloud9
Completely agree - I did read somewhere that somebody put that engine into an E30 shell - can you imagine!

If BMW can get this down to under 1500kg, I promise I’ll eat it, the whole car!
I'd be surprised if it's below 1500kg - Markus Flasch said at least 100kg saving but if it does end up at 1435kg, that statement would be seriously under-playing the extent of the weight saving program.

His S85 V10 E46 also looks quite interesting: https://www.driftworks.com/blog/garage/driftworks-...
There was also a great thread on here a while ago (which I’ve since lost) with an Icelandic guy who was doing an S85 with DCT into an E30, don’t know if it ever got finished though…
Yeah - that is pretty cool! I remember that E30 with the V10 as well - it looked amazing!

It’ll never be anywhere near that weight, never!!
I know but if by some miracle it is - expect to see me back here wink

And this is part of what's wrong. Instead of sticking with great engines and making cars to suit, manufacturers are happy to take the bodge route out of just banging on a turbo to endow a load of torque that shouldn't be needed. If you love the torque of the turbocharged engines, wait until battery power kicks in - you'll be nuts for that..

Unfortunately going to have to accept we're past the days of peak BMW Motorsport, just glad I can still go round and fap over my mate's E24 M635csi, E26 M1, E30 M3 Sport Evo, and other models from before BMW had lost the plot hehe
I couldn’t agree more, the great engines of old will probably never be seen again, anyone can make an engine quick with a turbo, but to make it Without one (or in some cases 4) isn’t so easy!! I’m glad I’ve still got my 6,8,10 & 12 cylinder engined BMW’s, love them!!
I had an E36 M3, loved it - thought it was an amazing car. And I do love a naturally aspirated engine. The flat 6 in my old GT3 being the absolute highlight of my car ownership. But some turbo engines are pretty bloody cool too! The one in the new M5 for example is mind-blowing! Relentless is probably the best description for it.

I cannot see this living up to the name, I hope I'm wrong!
Markus Flasch (Ex chief of BMW-M) suggested at least a 100kg weight saving over the standard M4, which weighs 1725kg, so it will weigh around 1625kg, which is still pretty portly! Although about the same as my old E92 M3. The lowest figure I've seen on the internet is 1435kg, which feels ridiculously low for obvious reasons. I mean if you made a near 300kg weight-saving, why would you suggest around 100kg saving?
