terrier killed my neighbours hens

...yesterday evening my Lakeland got through the hedge and killed 4 of my neighbour's hens. She was about to dispatch the cockerel when I heard the commotion and went around to find her with him by the neck - managed to free him.

It was a pretty horrible experience and I was shaking as I went up the path to knock on my neighbour's door expecting to be lynched. To my utter amazement they were incredibly understanding and pretty much brushed it off as "it's nature", don't worry about it etc. Probably helped that they are country folk born and bred.

I offered to buy new new one's but they very politely declined ("they were getting a bit scrawny anyway") - will buy them some wine instead.

...terriers and hens do not mix.
