Just back from the emergency vets where our 3.5 year-old lab had a burn to his face, just under his eye cleaned and dressed because some f*cking c*nt threw a firecracker at him tonight.

Walking over Tooting common on an unlit path with him off his lead. He was 10 or 15 metres ahead and wandered into some trees and longer grass. Suddenly there was a flash and a loud bang and he absolutely howled but stayed worryingly still. I honestly thought he'd been shot. Smelt the firework and was torn between chasing the scum and looking after him. Glad I stayed with him as (a) he was dazed and then quite disorientated/distressed and (b) because I was so angry and pumped up that, if I'd cought the guy I genuinely think I'd have done him (or, more likely, he'd have stabbed me).

Got the boy home and, whilst Mrs C called 101, I got him to the vet. Thank God just superficial and they missed his eye by less than an inch!!

He's now home, tucked up in his bed and very woozy, having been sedated.

Be careful out there guys.....

Hi all. Very sadly deliberately thrown at the dog - laughing at his howls of pain and running off.

Fortunately, he seems well on the road to recovery with few lasting affects. Need to take him out Asap to see whether it's made him gun-shy but, so far, so good

I'm sorry to hear this, what absolute pond life. I'm fairly local to you and have a lab who's confident/ relaxed - would be happy to bring him across for a walk if that would help
Thanks - that's incredibly generous and thoughtful.

I'm taking him down to Norfolk tomorrow for a day's pigeon shooting with my brothers dogs but, depending on how that goes, may take you up on your offer

Quick update on this.

Shuck's scars are healing well and I think that, before long, they won't really be visible unless you know they're there.

In terms of his temperament, he was a bit jittery the first time I took him out shooting but he's done a pheasant day and a bit of rough shooting since and seems to be fine, so - hopefully - no lasting harm done
