4 days south of france

I booked tickets for two of us to go to South of France (Nice) in August
Had a slight bit of regret as been there twice before and not sure I want to spend all time paying through the nose for stuff and things being a bit too posh.
Im thinking now - spend two days in Antibes / Villefranche-sur-mer etc. and then get a convertible for two days and travel about. Im thinking of maybe going to gorges du verdon for a day or two and doing something more active like kayaking there.
Any other suggestions for things to see / do road trips - something differnet to the beach side of things.
