Unexpectedly good things

For various reasons I had to get some temporary bedding for a few months. Buying beds seemed like a waste (especially as we wouldn’t have anywhere to put them) and blow up mattresses seemed inadequate for six months. We decided on some traditional Japanese futons, because we could store them afterwards so we could get some use in the future as spare beds for quests.
When they arrived I was a bit skeptical as when I put them on the floor they seemed quite thin and I wondered whether I could really sleep comfortably on one. The reality has been a complete surprise. I sleep really well on them. I think I prefer it to our bed. The only downside is that it isn’t as easy getting up to go to the toilet during the night, compared to a bed that is off the floor.
Things that you have bought or tried with very low expectations but have completely surprised you?
