Far too familiar on these threads, I need to get my act together. I've stuffed myself to within 300g of last year's starting weight. By the end of the year I was looking forward to getting home, breaking the unravelling and start being good (again!). An old boss used to call me 'seasonally plump' so I don't think the year-end meltdown is a new thing! When my head is in the right place, I can lose 10kg+ pretty quickly - sadly my head is often in the cake aisle.
Slimming world approach for me, lots of rowing, lots of walking. If I can fix the yo-yo, I'll be pleased.
This year I intend to post every week - no matter what my weight is doing.

No probs. Setting up the Wiki is one thing but we all have to play a part in keeping others/ourselves motivated!
Let us know how you're all approaching this - move more, eat less, fat clubs, gyms, jabs/medicinal, keto, fasting etc. lots of ways to skin a tubby cat.
For me it's a slimming world-type diet. LOTS of carbs, but low/no fat - no idea the science behind it, but it works for me. A treat day each Friday (after weighing-in) and a lot of exercise. I'll probably join the local slimming world group (again!), it's an extra layer of accountability - and much cheaper than the personal trainer I had for a while last year.
I haven't quite got my diet in check yet, but day 3 back on the rowing machine and will (gently) try and push my 5k time back to where it ought to be. Once I get a bit of reasonable fitness back, I'll start some proper training to get my 2k time under 7 minutes - which is tough for an old boy.
I love numbers (other than my weight!) so enjoy seeing my resting heart rate, cardio fitness, body fat % all shifting as I get more active.

I really need to start thinking in kg rather than st/lbs for body weight!
Yikes! Perhaps I need to switch the other way. I'm the same height, slightly heavier (a chunk older) and just had to check you'd got the numbers right - to realise I'm only loose change under 18 stone is a kick up the bum! interstellar said:

I’m not too sure if I’m doing something wrong but I managed to get added into the wiki but not there now? I think Losinggrip was too but not now?
I can’t see either of you there, how odd? When you do your entry, please refresh the page before starting, and then click preview to check it looks good.

Don't worry about it, the Wiki is there to support us. Not sure if the edit history is only available the 'OP', but it's very useful and this edit only took 2 minutes as I just used a recent version and added a couple of folk.As for winging it - some of us have a lot more to lose than others. I can lose a decent chunk of weight with small changes to diet & movement. Around 101/102kg (which is a couple of months away), it's starts to get much tougher and I tend to fall off the wagon rather than level up my approach. Maybe this year will be different.

That’s odd 22 as when I went to edit it earlier it said to me “you can’t as someone else is editing it, please wait” so it looks like it’s a shared file that has some protection.
I think if someone has an open edit - but takes a while (and I've done it) then others can also open the same file. The only time I've ever seen the 'someone else' message is when I edit then try and go back in straight away. Hodgie said:
I've disappeared from the wiki again so will post starting weights etc. below for the record!
If someone leaves the Wiki open on their browser and it gets updated by someone else during that time - their edit starts from their (now old) screen version. LosingGrip also disappeared, but added himself back. You're back on there now, I'm happy to check edit histories if it happens to anyone again - small price to pay if lots of PHers get onboard. People at the bottom most likely to get zapped - or possibly updating a weight may be lost.

Stuff
Someone asked about setting up the Wiki/thread - I'm no motivational speaker and certainly no role model. If many of us weren't flawed, we wouldn't need these threads. Nor would there be fat clubs, fat-busting jabs, C25K, keto diets and whatever. Maybe this thread leads to some people finding fasting is their answer. I had a quit smoking thread years ago. If only someone had posted how easy it was on day 1, it could have saved me loads of time & money. Humans are complicated and flawed!
However you intend to lose weight, hopefully you'll find support here.
1.8kg for the 'week' - I'll take that as an opening salvo. Long and boring version below - mostly for my own motivation/sanity.
Fridays are my weigh-in day, I'll update here first thing, then will go to a local Slimming World group (unless the global obesity industry has collapsed and it's boarded up after seeing Hoofy's posts
) and then I usually have a treat day. The kids successfully negotiated a Thursday takeaway so had no idea about the scales today (but I'd barely eaten during the day). I've been weighing everyday - not something I always do, but at the start as the body adjusts to an improved diet (& less retained water or whatever it does) the scales can help get my head in the game.
My rowing machine was unfolded on the 30th so I've done 4 days of 10k metres total each day, starting with a timed 5k. Day 1 I rowed the 5k without pushing hard. Day 2 I set the little pace-boat graphic at the day before's pace and just aimed to beat it - which I've done again each day (from a proper slow start). I'm already 1min20 better than the first one - but the same again off a decent pace (& it gets much harder). I'll have to change the approach as you can't do a 'hard' 5k every day for long, but we're not there yet. I plan to walk down to work today (rowing machine in the office) and row again - when I'm rowing at a decent level I always have a rest day (on treat day) but at the moment I'll keep going until my body says otherwise.
My diet has been considerably improved. I don't drink or have a sweet tooth so it should be easy. I've been sitting stuffing whatever in the evenings 'because Christmas' after stuffing myself through November and December because I'm an idiot and it happens over and over.

Well done to everyone chalking up early weight losses or continuing last year's good work.
I usually lose a big chunk the first week or two - this year a rogue Chinese takeaway slowed me a little. But, with the early treat day, I will have 7 days straight of being more sensible - in fact yesterday was my first full day of what would be 'on plan' with Slimming World - including a massive bowl of Cajun Dirty Rice (and two more portions gone in the freezer). The scales rewarded me today, but I'll update my Wiki entry once a week rather than tempt fate!
Tonight I'm making a roast beef dinner with 'fry-light' air-fryer roasties - they're not too bad, and unlimited on SW (again, no idea the science, but it works for me). Without a sweet tooth or alcohol, I don't usually dip into my 'syns' allowance. I sometimes have one of those savoury snack bar things and perhaps a bag of pop-chips or snack-a-jacks.
My diet is massively improved from the tail-end of last year and it doesn't take long to start feeling better about yourself.
Today I listened to my body and didn't push on the rowing. Did 2750 metres at yesterday's 5k pace but then the rest (up to 10k) at something probably not much beyond walking pace - still it's better than nowt. ETA: Might be doing myself a disservice, smart watch says 8 minutes of moderate, 44 minutes of vigorous and a whopping 1 minute of peak heart-rate.
Onwards and downwards!

1) whats the variance in hydration/being full/not yet having had a morning poo etc.? - I ask as the new year has brought a bout of the old norovirus and within a few days it looks like i'd 'lost' a couple of KG - though given i couldnt keep anything down, suspect that this was just a lack of fluids!
I just weigh myself the same time each day. It's when I get up, morning pee but before a brew or any other paperwork. Even when I go to Slimming World group weighs - I've had 2 cups of tea and take my coffee flask - but it's the same each week so the trends are reflected. I use some digital bathroom scales that show body fat etc. Some question the accuracy but it certainly reflects my good phases and meltdowns. It's the same tech as the fancy machines that do the same, so I'm happy seeing the trends.

Always been up and down with my weight losing and gaining the same 1.7 stone.
There's someone who means business! I'm a 2 stone yo-yo man. I enjoy losing it but 'enjoy' putting it on (very quickly) - one of those probably needs professional help - but I make do with you lot on here. Always been up and down with my weight losing and gaining the same 1.7 stone.

50 now (today!) too so it's only going to get harder to shift but in the past I have done it with pretty much reduced alcohol content and watching my snacking.
Back home later today from my birthday weekend, will kick this off from tomorrow/Tuesday.
Well done everyone so far.
Happy Birthday! Tomorrow sounds like the better choice! Back home later today from my birthday weekend, will kick this off from tomorrow/Tuesday.

Some awesome early progress folks - nice one.
I rowed my 10k this morning and then walked home with a bottle of milk. It's considerably uphill but was much harder work than usual. Might have needed 40 winks on the sofa to recharge! I know when I'm training at a better fitness level that rest days are crucial, but I think my body could do with one already as I battle the scales!
I don't track my food super-strictly, but have added a daily diet score out of 10 alongside other tracked elements.

Pleased to say the weight is falling off me at the moment - considerably changed diet and movement - plus 10kg+ was piled on over the last couple of months of 2024. Getting back to where it was is a lot easier than getting to where I'd like it to be, it's sadly a familiar pattern.
Today was the first day the scales didn't go down - in fact they went up 0.2kg. I had a rest day from exercise yesterday and plan some proper low intensity cardio today, but will try to not let the small increase get in my head! Over two weeks it's going to be a big loss and posting here to keep myself accountable! Wiki update tomorrow.
Well done to everyone making progress and welcome to anyone joining us. There is a Wiki if you'd like to use it to track your progress (it's easier than it looks at first glance).

Well done LG, similar here.
2.3kg for the week and 4.1kg since I started a couple of days before new year. I want to lose a touch under 20kg so that's a chunk already.
Feeling strangely flat, but there is no way those numbers continue to go down unless I properly give my diet the attention it will need. Today is treat day - but I have an office full so probably won't stuff myself stupid (he says!).

Last Friday (treat day) ended up being a bit of a horror show. So much so, that I've been absolutely on it since and have 1.7kg to show for the week. Slimming world style with plenty of pasta & rice to fill me up. Only one day did I feel the food didn't quite hit the spot - but probably just my mind. I've eaten a Cajun-style Dirty Rice, a Chicken & bacon Risotto, a roast, Spag bol and others - one problem is most weeks will end up with a similar menu as I know it's all 'allowed' and filling.
Clocked up 61k metres on the rowing machine for the week and that was with yesterday my body saying no thanks after 5k (and it was a 'steady' session, nothing too demanding). Easily 10k steps daily, some days considerably beyond and a conscious effort to walk more.
Feel good, head seems in the right place - but I've been here before.
Well done folks and never to late to embrace a bit of PH accountability and join us.

1.3kg for me this week, which seems to have largely been in the last 24 hours as wasn't especially shifting before. Even before the last minute drop it felt like a good week as my belt moved along to the next hole.
Sailed Rowed through 200k metres on the machine for the month/year - times aren't improving yet but general fitness and resting heart rate shows it's playing a part.
I'm still 5kg+ heavier than I was towards the end of October so my powers of self-destruct lurk over me.
Slimming world and exercise for me but find your way and be accountable to us tubbies on here!

Someone has just messed up the Wiki, it's gone back to a previous version. I was 102.1kg on the 26th, but it's showing my previous entry.
I'll give it a tidy up best I can. Sit tight. Any updates between the last one I see (Fiatpower) and mine will be missed. ETA - think that's done. I've checked weights where obvious/recent updates lost, but not checked each and every.
I'm in a strange place where I'm looking forward to updating my weight on a Friday and I'm losing 'easily'. Shame that I regularly go through this phase, it's the next one I struggle with.

There was a Keto guy a while back on one of these threads. He was absolutely apoplectic with my weight loss matching his. All very strange. But I'm back here once again, and he's probably canoodling with super models. There's usually some weight loss evangelists (for whatever their way was), but under the the surface is a supportive thread.

You've got this. Your binge came while on a downward trajectory. Your mood might be low, but your weight is also incredibly lower than it has been, you have the stats to show for it. You should be proud of what you've achieved. Today at work is going to be

Sigh.
I binge once a week - absolute meltdown. I need to feel so sick with myself by the end of Friday so that I'm then totally focused for the week. At at the end of that week I need another binge. It's a fragile pattern but (kind of!) works for me. Of course there are underlying issues, welcome to my world

We're all wired differently and something that looks easy to someone else, is an unrealistic approach for others.
