Aston Martin Vantage 'AMR' launched

Not the super limited AMR Pro, here's the racy new Vantage that you can use on the road

Remember the Geneva motor show? March may seem a while ago now but, amongst the Alpine A110, Ferrari 812 and McLaren 720S, Aston Martin also launched its 'AMR' range of cars. There was an AMR Pro Vantage, and the AMR Line Rapide; now we have the latest addition to the AMR range, just in time for Le Mans, the Vantage AMR.

Looks quite good, doesn't it? Oh sure, the Vantage is a familiar design now - and of course soon due for replacement - but that doesn't stop it being very pretty. For the AMR model four colour combos are offered, in a similar way to the old N430 special edition: there's Stratus White with an orange graphic, Ultramarine Black with blue, Zaffre Blue with red and Scintilla Silver with grey. An additional 'Halo Pack' is also available and is seen here, adding Lime Green accents to a Stirling Green base. The Union Jack wing badges can also be added, because why wouldn't you want to copy the race car?

Indeed, if that isn't enough, there are a range of 'AMR Accessories' that can be added too. Take a look at the white car here for an idea of how that will look; the Aero Kit is the most obvious change, but there are also a set of forged aluminium wheels and a titanium exhaust that saves 14kg from standard.

As this model aims to celebrate the success of Aston's GT4, GT3 and GTE Vantages, the AMR model will be offered with V8 and V12 engines. The V8 makes 436hp, with the V12 now up to 603hp from 573; both are offered with manual or paddleshift gearboxes. Oh goody. And if you're struggling to ever tell them apart, the V8 has five-spoke wheels and the V12 10-spoke.

Don't forget the accessories catalogue too...

While only coupes are shown here, the AMR Vantages will be offered as Roadsters as well. Very motorsport. Each interior colour scheme is matched to the exterior you choose, with all leather for the drop-top and then some additional Alcantara for the coupe.

Fancy one? Best move fast, as just 300 AMRs are being made: 100 V12s and 200 V8s, with no fixed split between coupe and Roadster. Prices start at £97,995 and, if you're down at Le Mans this weekend, a pair of Vantage AMRs will be on display - keep a look out!

Great looking car, always has been....but surely well overdue for replacement now.

Unfortunately, I'd be far more tempted by one of the myriad 911 variants (if you could find one that Porsche will actually sell you)
