Is it possible to get a paint code from a reg number at all?

I'm after a very specific Ford Fiesta paint code, for a car I want to paint that colour rather than to match a new panel or whatever. It's an unusual colour, it's a metallic green with a hint of blue, hard to describe, it doesn't appear on the Ford website anywhere and I can't find pictures on Google, but every time I see the colour I make a note of the reg.

The DVLA vehicle checker always returns the wrong colour, either Blue or Black, so it's obviously not the way to go, but is there a system that a bodyshop would have access to to get the codes, or are you stuck with the label on the car? It's hard enough spotting cars with the colour, let alone when they're stationary and the owner is there to ask!

Cheers

You can get the paint code off the Ford ETIS system.

What kind of era is the colour from? That might help narrow it down a little.

When I was looking for second hand body parts with a particular paint code for my Fiat Panda ( no sniggering at the back) I used twitter to contact Fiat and with the reg of the potential donor they could tell me the colour of that particular vehicle.
So certainly Fiat seem able to do it.

The earliest car I've seen is 2016, the latest 2018.

The closest I've found picture wise is this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=ford+fiesta+blue+w...

Which claims to be Blue Wave and I can't tell if it's exactly right because for some reason they seem to have taken those pictures in dusk light.

But then the rest of the internet thinks Blue Wave looks like this:

https://www.allenmotorgroup.co.uk/used-car-details...

It's almost as if the colour never really existed officially and was changed to a different blue, but I see one every couple of weeks, so it's not super super rare.

Your first link goes to a new car page for me soit's hard to see which car you mean. If you plug the reg number of a car with the paint colour you want into here it will tell you the VIN & the colour:
http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

I think Blue Wave is code HDSWETA

https://www.touchuppaints.com.au/index.php?cat=229...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352374735990?ul_noapp=t...

No idea if it's the colour you want though.

That first link was a Google Image search, but you're right, when you go to the page it doesn't list the colour or feature the right image at all.

Maybe this link works; https://www.stanpalmer.co.uk/new/ford/fiesta/colou... the Blue Wave there is very different to the other one I linked to, though it's still appears quite dark.

I didn't realise I can access the Ford system, so that's great, but the two regs I have don't work. YT18GSO is a Ford Ranger in Black, ND16YYP isn't found at all. I'm 99% these are correct, but feel free to try any variants you can think.

Thanks for all the help!

Whenever i have needed to order paint, they can match the colour code from the vin number or registration number. Try Autocolour & Industial Coatings, they should be able to match it for you.

It’s YT18GFO. Ford list is as Blue Wave on microcat/etis. No paint code listed on either that I can see though.

Thanks, that's helpful, any ideas how I can get the code?

I would have thought it would be on the VIN plate, do you have a picture of it?

That's a last resort really, no I've only grabbed these plates when driving about. Was hoping not to have to accost someone in the street if possible!

Might have to ring a dealer then, they should have access to more vin data than I can see here

The paint code should be on the label inside the drivers door..................

And then see if you can find the latest version of this (although my Panther black Mondeo has always had the same code, year after year)

Just save so much fking around and just ring your local ford dealer, give them the reg and they will tell you what colour it is.

It’ll take two minutes.

That’s assuming you have tried ETIS first and it isn’t working.

I'm not fking about, I was asking if there's a simple way. Unless I can WhatsApp call them, calling is out as my phone is broken after Samsung issued the latest software patch and I'm too busy with other stuff to mess around sorting that right now. I'm not in a rush, just thought I'd ask now before I forget/lose the reg numbers.

The simplest thing by far is to call Ford. Ask to speak to parts. Give them the reg. They will tell you the code and colour name straight away.

As an aside, I would have thought a non working phone is an absolute urgent priority to repair? You must surely need to speak to people a couple of times a day at least?

My apologies if I came across rudely. That was not my intention. Fords can be tricky with colour codes as they use the same one repeatedly for different colours or variants of colours, and it’s this system that causes all the fking around issues, not you.

Hence why speaking to them is the easiest and quickest.

Don't worry I didn't take it that way, thanks for the comprehensive answer.

The phone thing is odd, it's a software thing, so I can't make calls or receive them, but everything else works fine. The only people I usually need to speak to are on WhatsApp, so I'm just calling them with that. I'm snowed under with work and both my kids are ill so I don't have time to wade through Google trying to find a fix or rolling back the update and it's not such an issue that I'm going to put the sim in another phone.
