I would guess a fair amount of people on PH watch YouTube videos of various vloggers (LLF,Officially Gassed,TR Hamza ect) reviewing high performance and heavily modified cars.I'm certainly guilty. The standard format is a brief overview of the car and its additions followed by the driver taking the chap/lady for a "spirited" drive then hands the reins over to the reviewer who sticks it through its paces.

I always have this uneasy feeling when watching that someones going to run out of skill driving at way over 100 mph on a B road (blurred speedo mandatory) and stack it trying to show off and it seems that has gone and happened. To be honest would you get into a 600 bhp RS3 with a random person you met 10 minutes ago and let them drive like they were transporting a kidney?

Anyhoo one of the regulars TR Hamza is currently in hospital looking like an extra from casualty with multiple broken bones because someone decided to put an X4M passenger side first into a tree at speed because they lost control.I think in a hot hatch they would have been cleaning Hamza out with a sponge so he's very lucky. Hopefully he makes a swift recovery.

I think some drivers just put a bit too much faith in modern cars complex driver aids and 4 wheel drive systems and think they can go at any speed and the car will defy the laws of physics. This idea of thinking falls flat on its face when someone puts a tree in your way.

My impression of the X3M is that it had overly hard suspension and an engine that got it to dangerous speeds in a very short amount of time. Badly maintained uneven and greasy/wet roads on unforgiving low profile tyres are not going to do most cars any favours let alone 2 tons of hard sprung SUV going too fast. It still boils down to driver error though when it all goes tits up.

The moral here is don’t buy an X3M unless you are fond of Sunday driving ...or coffins.
