Jannarelly Design-1 UK Edition revealed

Low volume manufacturer signals its entry into the UK market with five unique variants of its retro sports car

Jannarelly's Design-1 roadster first caught our attention last year, its retro looks, 325hp V6 and 810kg kerb weight ticking all the right boxes for a pared back driver's car. We liked it even more after we got behind the wheel during Salon Prive, the slick six-speed manual transmission, low-down seating position and steering rack borrowed from a Lotus Elise, all contributing to a thoroughly memorable B-road blast.

Now, in homage to the nation which calls itself home to the very concept of the diminutive two-seat sports car, Jannarelly is launching a limited-run 'UK Edition'.

Limited to just five examples, the UK Edition has been created to celebrate the manufacturer's official arrival on these shores, with each car featuring an engine cover and side blades emblazoned with the Union Jack. All five machines come in Coupe specification with a full-carbon fibre body as standard - usually £7,500 and £12,000 options respectively - a set-up which further reduces the Design-1's mass to a flyweight 760kg.

Red, White, Blue, Grey and, of course, Green paint finishes are available, each with a white surround for the front grille, reminiscent of vintage British racers. A metal UK Edition plaque completes the look.

Company co-founder, Anthony Jannarelly, said of the special edition: "The UK is widely regarded to have one of the largest and most dedicated automotive communities in the world and it felt only right to recognise our entry into this historic market with a special edition of the Design-1. The UK Edition cars truly reflect Britain's extensive racing heritage but utilise the very best of modern materials to offer customers a classic car experience with 21st century engineering and design. We're excited to welcome our UK Edition buyers to the Jannarelly family and look forward to seeing the cars out on the road."

Those Union Jacks and metal plaques will set you back a pretty penny, however. From a base price of £85,000 the Design-1 UK Edition is available to order from £115,549, a hefty premium even over a standard full-carbon car. Still, with the car's stunning looks, superb performance and exclusive status, we're sure Jannarelly won't have too much difficulty tracking down five willing buyers.

Quite like that/them. Interesting how 'modular' they've managed to do it - can 'regular' manufacturers ever do the same? Or have Jannarelly skipped some of the painful European type approvals to do it?
