New 991.2 Carerra Owner

Popped this up in readers cars but worth posting here too.
This car has already got under my skin much quicker than my previous Jag and is a close tie with my old C63 507.
Will be on here for the useful Porsche ownership tips and tricks that no doubt reveal themselves, but also provide an update into my own experiences.
I’ve picked up on a couple of very minor things since owning the car so it’ll be useful to get some ideas.
Front Door Speaker Rattle - this is a regular on many cars I guess but are their any hotspots on where it could come from. I feel like mine either the window switches or the small panel behind the door handle. Only really heard during music with more base.
Brake Squeal - very prominent at low speeds from 20mph to a stop. Presume good old copper grease will do the trick but to be honest they’ll be due a swap out soon
Transmission noises - I think this could be normal (certainly hope so) but I do get a bit of transmission chatter again at low speeds and when on/off throttle. It operates perfectly
Apple Car Play - can’t select next track from the steering wheel despite adding the shortcut to the diamond button. I think this might be a software fix but it’s counterproductive having the volume on the wheel but no skip.
Anyway back to my readers cars post and some snaps.

I am here with a new motor!
Unfortunately, after I scratched the surface of the Jag (which was amazing) and dug a little deeper, I just found it was lacking. Not in performance, noise or looks but just in quality and the all-round package. I totally get it and I am glad I gave it a go, but it wasn’t a long-term proposition for me.
So, the new car and the highlights.
2017
991.2 Carrera Base (3.0TT)
Base specs too, apart from PSE and S wheels (Not even sports chrono!)
White exterior with Bordeaux interior
One former owner, FPSH, Warranty and with 32k miles on the clock.
The bottom line, its fantastic! The quality is so evident in lots of different little ways that it makes a big impact. The drive and handling are a world away from the Jag (much more than I expected). The power and noise is completely different, but I don’t feel like I am missing out even though the figures may suggest otherwise. The porker is just so much more efficient at making the most of what it has, that it bridges any performance gap (in my opinion).
My search was simple, I wanted a 911 but was open to spec, age, color, and options. If I was buying new, would I have gone for this spec? I am not sure……..however what I have learnt is what looks good on paper (or screen) is sometimes very different to reality and so I was open to giving anything a chance.
When I saw this, I knew it was the one. There was just something clean and crisp about it in white (my first white car incidentally) that just looked amazing…..and kind of more so in base spec! Before I viewed the car, I was hesitant about the interior but again thought I would check it out and give it the benefit of the doubt. Now just two days in, I couldn’t imagine this car with anything else. It’s a much darker red than what’s displayed in the pictures, and I love it. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea which I appreciate but if we were all the same it would be boring right!
For now it’s time to put what’s left of the Cup 2’s to good use and enjoy the car. A couple of my friends are talking me into a mild tune which will take it from 370 to circa 480 (which would be fun) but for now I am happy with it as it sits.

It looks like the thing you’ll need most is to make sure your air filters can cope with all the sand!
The best thing I’ve done for my 991.2 is have a wavetrack mechanical LSD fitted. This was to tame the huge torque now that it’s been tuned by Litchfield motors. Before that I fitted an Akrapovic exhaust. This has improved the quality of the sound rather than the volume.

Hey thanks, the exhaust and tune are things I am considering at the moment too. I do like the sound of the car but coming from the F Type, a lot is going to sound a little lame. Not sure how easy it is to obtain an Akrapovic over here in the UAE but I am going to try. Did you have the car tuned before the LSD? As for sand and general climate in the UAE. We have what’s called GCC specs for cars which essentially equips them better for the region. Not sure exactly what that entails on the 911 but this is the general message we get.
Small update.
From the moment I bought the car, I had an ambition to tidy up the rear emblems. Not only swapping them for black which I prefer, but removing the Carerra badge to make the whole look a little simpler.
So armed with everything I needed, I set to
Once I’d done Porsche, I went in for a quick check of the 911 and Carerra section as it was. Now both Porsche and 911 Carerra are slightly curved. To my eyes the Porsche section looked good both before and after I finished, however 911 Carerra never looked right. Armed with a level (at the center point) and tape, this kind of confirms my thoughts. It’s not level (and maybe it shouldn’t be) but the lift at either side was uneven at best.
So now onto the tricky 911 part, using the S of Porsche as my center point and ensuring the extreme edges of the 9 (left) and 1 (right) extended the right amount from center. After lots of measuring, eyeing, trial and error i needed up somewhere close to happy.
I’m sure something will jump out at me as wrong in the coming days and I have my thoughts on a couple of minor areas but I’ll await to see if someone here with younger eyes then me confirms my thoughts or (hopefully) says it looks alright.
All in all, I’m happy with the result and it looks better than before.

Thanks for the kind comment. I could have done with that picture before hand as a guide! I did find some online though which was helpful and agree, looks so much better. Sorry for the noddy question but did you have to specify you wanted it like that?
Car looks lovely BTW, I think a 911 is one of only a few cars that I would be really happy to have it in yellow. What spec is yours?

Thanks, and whilst I’m biased I like both to be honest. Clearly the new car instantly ages my car, and I can see the appeal however I’m content with the proportions of mine more than the 992.
I’d say my thoughts around base models are less contrasting but the likes of the Turbo S, GT3 etc I much prefer the 991.2 equivalents.

As mentioned, I like them both but for different reasons. Love the wide ass of new model and the refreshed face. However overall I prefer the general proportions of mine, and I prefer the exhaust layout too.

Well just over 3 months in and the car is a beauty.
It’ll soon need some new boots but I’ll definitely be sticking with the Cup 2’s, they are very impressive. The combo of this car in this climate, really makes the most of them.
No plans for the car other than keeping it clean and enjoying it. It wants for nothing (other than the aforementioned tyres).
I thought my old C63 507 was going to be hard to match and whilst that had more drama and excitement it wasn’t as polished as the porker is. Most situations, it over delivers. Not bad for a base car. I must say, a few 991.1 GTS’s and GT3’s have caught my eyes though.
Now it’s winter and the weather is perfect, I’ve had time for some serious buffing. White looks clean in most photos but the reality can be quite different. All said, I was happy with how it came out.
