anyone planning on getting an R5 when it's launched? read the spec this morning and noticed that it's coming V2L capable, which is going to be a huge positive step.

A lot of EV's these days already have V2L? It's V2G that's going to be the huge step.
sorry, i actually meant V2x. you're right that loads of cars can have stuff powered from them, but not yet a whole house or flog cheap power back to the grid for a profit.

That's what Renault claims the R5 will do, let you sell power back to the grid. There's a whole ecosystem that needs to be put in place first and a boatload of wrangling to achieve that. But one day it'll make evs even cheaper to run, I'm sure of that.
true. for now it's more about being able to hoover power up cheap, free or even get paid to do so, power your house for days with it and have a nice shiny vehicle to use when you want. obviously this is a much better use case if your car is parked at home most of the time for whatever reason.

What would be the point?

Having a hot hatch even with the performance of an original R5 Turbo or 205 GTi is pretty pointless given the massive increase in traffic, reduction in speed limits and proliferation of speed cameras since then.
bingo! this is PH, so fair enough to concentrate on the hottest variant. however, this is really about the base R5 which will hopefully be priced at a point where it becomes a like for like purchase against a similarly specced ICE vehicle.

Like many, it seems, I am quite excited about the new 5, but it will be interesting to see just how much of that excitement translates into sales.

The Fiat 500e is arguably similar - a retro EV using a famous nameplate - yet they have recently had to temporarily shut down production due to low EV demand.

I imagine a lot will depend on whether they can offer it at affordable PCP/lease rates.
the 500e price was nonsensical.

Of all the car types to 'need' heated seats, EVs need them the most.

It’s much more efficient to heat the occupants directly via seats and steering wheel than heating the air inside, which is then vented out of the cabin.
Jeez, must be a grim life if you don't heat the cabin to save a few pennies.
Possibly lives t'up norf where a proper heater is posh. Just put on another cardie!!
How dare you? I don’t live oop north!

For the record, I do heat the cabin and rarely use the heated seats, but it’s nice to have them on a really cold day.
my EV is absolute rubbish and doesn't have heated seats. peak district based so it's a bit parky at times, and the remote heating is way more handy than heated seats. when the software lets it work, that is.

I'm getting old, with a bad back, so heated seats are now a "must have" for me. EVs definitely heat much better than anything that i've had before, and being able to pre-heat the car still feels like a complete cheat to me. Having to scrape ice off a car car seems so 2015.

The seats only being available on the top spec R5 is an issue for me, and the colour doesn't help the debate. Might just have to look at the bottom spec Alpine instead..
hopefully just a launch thing, and further iterations of the R5 will be a bit more flexible with options?

Just had a look at the video. That car has V2G and V2L. For 25K!
Genuinely excited about it even if I already have 2 EVs.
The electrical hardware is the same as the R5, it also has V2x. Our issue is obtaining a home charger in the UK that supports it also!
indra charger look good

Indra’s own website says you cannot buy a bidirectional charger from them (i looked 30 seconds ago). Myenergi suggest that they will have a two way Zappi later this year
sorry, meant looks good for being one of the first to get one to market.

there's an awful lot of choice for putting a whole family in a car. the R5 surely never was that and thank god it isn't now a it's exactly what's needed in the EV market. try a scenic, perhaps?
