How can Rich Energy sponsor a team in BTCC?
Discussion
So no real answer. More smoke and mirrors and nobody sure who owns the brand or has the money. Certainly nobody putting their head above the parapet and saying “ we are sponsored by a really honest and above board company which has directors who are totally transparent in their dealings and sources of wealth “.
There have always been people involved in motorsport who get their wealth from criminal activities as there have been those who have trust funds, have legitimate careers and businesses and do it on a prayer. It’s a real melting pot and nobody in authority does anything about the need of transparency in the funding of the teams.
Maybe so many areas of motorsport would collapse without dodgy funding?

I have to agree with that last comment. Motorsport, like many sports and business ventures, is often quite happy not to ask the questions of where is the money coming from.
There are many criminal acts that provide vast amounts of wealth and mostly the people who commit these crimes have to splash the cash. The recent lockdowns have produced fictitious business loans that have bought new cars and kitchens etc rather than just tuck it under the mattress.
F1, Le Mans and Touring Cars have all had their dodgy characters spending their drugs money or the proceeds from financial scams yet the motor sports authorities do not ban the individuals from the sports for life. They are almost always welcomed back with open arms.
The drivers who are close to their backers or owners are aware it’s all dodgy but they are quite happy to feed at the table of the criminal to enhance their careers.
