Audi 4.2 V8 in a 924.
Discussion
Hi All. I am swapping in a Audi 4.2L into my 82 924. started back in 2015. I am using a 931 bellhousing with a Audi v6 spacer welded to it. Has 944 turbo front and rear brakes. Suspension, Audi A6 swap bars, 944 Turbo torque tube and gearbox. Aluminum flywheel, Mazda 240mm clutch disk and S4 Luk pressure plate. Will be using the OBD2 system for the A8, plus Cluster, and possible working on the Xenon lighting for the headlights.

What an amazing amount of work. That's going to be brilliant. What kind of power will it have and what is your intention, will it be a road car?
Thank you!! Looking around 380hp/tq, will be a legit road car, with stock looking interior, aside for the Audi A8 Custer. I will have full heating and AC too. Hey all, sorry for the delay in post, It kept giving me the new member temp hold last night when trying to reply. I highly appreciate the support and enthusiasm for my swap. It has been a crazy amount of work, but will be 100% worth every bit of it. my over all cost right now is only $4300 for this swap. it does help to do the work myself. After this swap is done I plan to get another 924/944 chassis and put the Audi S4 2.7 twin turbo in it lol. I will keep you all posted as I can, the car is 350 miles from me at my Dad's house due to me being station down at Edwards AFB. I will be able to work on her some more this coming December. if you all have any questions about my swap, please do ask.
Thank you guys, I will update as I can. which will be in about 22 days lol! finally get to go home to my Dad's. my Interior I am redoing in our Family Tartan, doors cards, lower Dash, and center console. I have not started on the Dash yet, need to adapt the A8 cluster to it first. Also added a few extra pictures or radiator placement and modified steering arm.
Hey all, working on fitting the late model 944 HVAC unit in. It is going pretty good, got it set about where it needs to go, required some extra cutting.... but what has not required that on this lol! But it will be a nice upgrade from the old worn out 81 924 stuff.
I will continue working on her after Christmas
The Dash will require a bit of mod work, but nothing crazy at a, was pretty surprised at how well it fit over the upper section.

Fabricating the Passenger side header, it has turn out pretty good. quiet pleased with the shape, everything is tacked into to place and can be installed and removed with out taking it apart, which is huge! considering the space I am working with.
Drivers side is certainly going to be more tricky.
Looking forward to seeing your S2 up and going, I am doing a S2 swap into my Wife's 944 NA, I will post a new thread about it once I get home from the holiday times.

I haven't seen this thread before but this caught my eye. We lived at Edwards back in the 70s, on Lindbergh Drive. I don't know if it's even there anymore but may have a look at Google maps to see.
Great work on the 924 btw.
Hiya, They have changed the base so much it is insane, everything has moved or became bigger, the Baily elementary school is getting a full over haul. Commissary and Exchange have been moved to a much larger structure and they have much larger dorms too. I have about 10 more months there then I am out of the Navy, looking forward to itGreat work on the 924 btw.
Thank you, been a long project, but going to be loads of fun once done. will have some nice tech in it as well.
Thank you a lot niftty951! It has been heeps of fun and I enjoy it all. Agreed, the 924S was sorely underrated, was a very good car!.
When I get back home I will post up the 944S2 enginex swap for my Wife's 944.
The 2.7t swap is amazing, great power, still good on fuel and amazing sound. I did all the custom work myself which saved a lot of money. Whole swap cost me $1800.

rev_erend, THank you much. I will update as much as I can and as I comb through the A8 harness I have been working through.
Thales, thank you much! Very glad I found this amazing Forum and Site to post on.
james_TW, I am happy you like it! I will post as I can. the car is up at my Dad's about 350 miles one direction from me. so it is hard to get time off to go work on her.
pistonbroker, Thank you much! I am happy that Pistonheads is very good at monitoring and moving post. very well maintained.
Here is a picture of our Passat. I can make a thread about it as well if you all want.

Good stuff!
As a matter of interest, why combine these two - any particular reason, you already had the bits, just because?
Sorry a missed this man. I had wanted to do a V8, but the US V8 swap is so common it has become boring, I have seen the Toyota V8 done before as well. Loads of 1.8t and 5cyl swaps. I have seen the people start this Audi V8 swap and quit. So this swap becane of huge interest to me. It has been a lot of work, but will be very worth to have the Only Audi V8 924. I have owned my 924 since 2001 and I picked up the complete Audi V8 for $900, so it began lol. Completely pointless and loads of work. And therefore fantastic. Hat's off to you Sir!
Have to admit I've always prefered the shape of the 924 to the 944. It's prettier.
Lol it is bonkers to do this ai know, but will be worth having the only Audi V8 924 that is 100% complete. The 924 is very pretty compared to the 944NA, I do like the S2,and Turbo look a bit more then the 924, not by muchHave to admit I've always prefered the shape of the 924 to the 944. It's prettier.
Thank you Very much PH for this epic article on my swap!!

Sounds like a lot of work !
Amuses me when people say just throw an <Insert different engine> into it.
Lol certainly has been, but lots of fun!Amuses me when people say just throw an <Insert different engine> into it.
Theh do have some intall kits for some engine, but still lots of wiring involved for running. Plus a lot of the kits do not come with a means of Heat or AC hook ups
