993 Oil leak panic!!!

My 993 engine bay and underneath the engine itself has always been completely dry with no evidence of any oil leaks whatsoever. However, after a local run in the car over the weekend I have noticed several spots of oil on the floor in relatively close proximity to each other. (In line with rear wheels slightly to the right).
I checked under the car and seem to have located it to the oil filter itself or maybe a pipe from/to the oil filter. I have heard that this is fairly common on the 993.... 100% sure the leak has only just started and after some playing about seem to have temporarily cured it. Anyone else had any experience of this problem ? Is it serious ?
