I am planning a trip to Angouleme in September for the Circuit Des Remparts. When I went before in 2010 and 2011 I organised it on a diy basis rather than use a tour operator. Buying my tickets direct and camping. I was planning to do that again. One thing I learnt was that if you want to be able to sit down on the Sunday afternoon you need to book a grandstand ticket.

When I was in Paris for Retromobile (thanks anyone who responded to that thread) I spoke with someone on the Remparts stand who told me tickets were already on sale. When I go to the website, https://www.circuitdesremparts.com, it comes up as being under maintenance. I have been trying every couple of days for a week. Even though it is a long way off, the bookable grandstand tickets go quickly.

Has anyone else managed to or tried to get tickets?

Thanks, that's a shame.

Does anyone have a good off the main road route for getting to Angouleme?

I am crossing to Caen. In the past I have driven down in one day. This time I have allowed 2 day to get there and I am looking for a rural route with interesting places to visit on the way.

It's definitely worth a visit. Also a stay at the Hotel de France at Sarthe if you can.
That museum looks great. Just the sort of thing I was looking for.

Last year when I asked about routes from Cherbourg to Le Mans someone provided a great suggestion about where to pull off for breakfast.

This time, having come from the night ferry, I will be leaving the Caen ring on the D675 in a WSW direction. Does anyone have a suggestion for a breakfast stop?

Hope you all enjoyed it. We had a great time.

Visited the museum, linked earlier, on the way down. Great place with over 400 cars. Need to allow plenty of time.

A little bit of rain on on Sunday spiced the racing up a bit.

Great to see a Hillman Hunter GLS racing. Can't remember when I last saw one. Uses the same engine as the Sunbeam Rapier H120 with the Holbay head. Also a Dolly Sprint in the same race. Shame it was tail ended. The MGB with the bonnet vents did well considering what it was up against. We enjoyed the pre-war MG race with cars from the MG Car Club's Triple M register. Don't think I have ever seen an MG R type before. There can't have been many pre-war racing cars with independent suspension all round.

We saw some of the competing cars on the dock side at Portsmouth on the way out and then others at Caen on the way back.
