STI PPP performance?

Currently drive an E39 M5 and briefly considered one of these before I bought the M. Now I was talking to a friend in the pub who has driven my car and he mentioned he'd been out in one of these that day. When I asked him how it compared to mine (in straight line speed obviously) he said he didn't want to offend me but the sti would walk the M5 up to 140 mph.. now I know these cars are quick but I wouldn't have thought that once moving that it would embarrass an M5? Anyone had both cars for an opinion?

I'm not foolish enough to think my m5 would match an sti from standstill, I was getting more at the 30-70 and upwards sort of thing. In short I suppose I was a bit reluctant to accept that the m5 would only pull on the impreza when it ran out of gearing.
