what's the difference with the BMW mini facelift?

when I eventually get a proper job 
I will need some waterproof (ginetta ruled out), reliable (mini ruled out) yet funky transport to get me to and from work quickly so I'm seriously considering the new mini...went into the dealer to be told that it had been facelifted and that the old ones will be seriously depreciating now...so how different is it to the outgoing (2001-2004) model?
also, I was going to go for the cooper S on a 52 reg but now I think I'll push the water based transport implement out and go for a new one...at least that means I can spec it myself, but is it worth it? thanks
