eBay Scrapping Private Seller Fees
Discussion
I think this is new but eBay are now duty bound to report your earnings to HMRC if you sell so many items ( 30 ? ) or over a certain amount or an individual item over 6k ?
Of course as a private seller most of us will be fine …
Yes HMRC I’ve been collecting those for 20 years etc..
I could be wrong but that’s the gist I got last night over a beer..

Rumour has it they're going to introduce a buyer's premium
Where did you hear that, down the pub ?
It seems highly improbable for a business that focuses so hard on wooing the buyer.
However, buyers are set to face a charge. How it will be applied is yet to be determined though it will take effect early next year, the company said.

Seems like a strange move though.

One of the things I like about the new regime is that you can just leave your s
t up there on Buy It Now with auto renew until the right buyer comes along. Even if it's months down the line.
Just made a sale on something like this. Yay.
Yeah it’s much better than ending all your listings the day before to relist that is as a pita.

Just been reading posts on the eBay Community forums and it also appears that Managed shipping is also going to be compulsory in Q1 2025 ...
Screw that. We should be free to use whoever we want to deliver a package, they are trying to control everything.Personally I think it’s sad that low value items won’t be worth selling; in the modern world of us wanting to use things rather than send them to landfill, this is doing the opposite - small collectible or useful / hard to find items that aren’t worth a lot eg could be anything like educational revision guides, badges, belt buckles, rare microchip to repair vintage electronics or whatever, will just be chucked away as the extra fees, plus eventually forced tracking delivery through their platform, will mean it’s not viable.
I've just been through all my listings and priced them aggressively been selling old stuff since 2000 but my intention is to have nothing listed by the time all this comes in.
The Lego I can sell elsewhere the other stuff I can sell as auctions for a laugh if it doesnt sell as BIN.

I used to only list on "80% off weekends" which I was offered every two weeks
So I was paying 2% - now they've doubled that and are holding on to my funds as well
I don't mind using their delivery - its easy to use, there's a decent range of options and it's sensibly priced IME
I mostly sell used car parts on ebay and FB Groups (never marketplace because it's just full of scammers and idiots)
However recently I sold my watch and ebay allowed a return - which I was charged for, despite it being exactly as described - if that kind of thing continues it will see me drop ebay
It's still free the buyer pays not the seller. So I was paying 2% - now they've doubled that and are holding on to my funds as well

But if I am selling a TV for £1000
There are 10 on marketplace for £1000 as that is the market value
If I list it on ebay for £1000 they will now advertise it for £1040 and everyone will either buy the ones on MP or offer me £1000
So who is actually paying the fee ?

I'm guessing you haven't read much of this thread then? Because that's exactly what we have been discussing, although admittedly the last few pages have got sidetracked with the "delays to released funds" issue.
Guess not! I did read back a few pages and nothing seemed to relate to this and the thread title was Seller Fees, so I thought this was a new thing.

I'm still mystified how the planned compulsory 'Simple' postage system will work as Ebay doesn't seem to have a clue about postage costs.
It's not compulsory and isn't planned to be either. smokey mow said:

eBay community / just Google it loads and loads of hits
Yes plenty of chatter, but nothing official from eBay. Everything official states that simple posting is to be introduced in Q1 of 2025 which it has been, but do not suggest that the opt out to arrange your own postage is to be withdrawn. The only people saying simple posting will become the only option in future are on forums like here.
