Tenant Problem! Help!

I have a friend who has a young family who is renting a property, has been given a notice to move out on 28th August as the landlord has sold the property.

However, he has found a new property to move in, BUT it won't be ready until 14th Sept, so they will be virtually be homeless between 28th to 13th Sept - what is the tenant's rights? Should they stay at the current property until 13th Sept ? Or should they move out on a binding contract that they were given the notice to move out.

I dont want them to end up homeless...

Please advise ?

They were given 2 months to move out of the current property on 28th August.
