Sublime Pandamonium II

the two owners from new are an old couple who live in my village. Sadly the husband passed away a few years ago and the widow has been told this week she's unfit to drive any more. She remembered me asking about the car seven years ago when I had my white one. The car was advertised for £500 but I could have it for £300 because I know the car so well. Dug the car out of the snow to find a solid lump of ice in the fan. So the car will need to be thawed out before any road miles. The locks were frozen and when freed the doors were frozen shut as well. The owners Nissan Micra wouldn't start so I had to push it out of the way. When I eventually got in, I pulled the choke and the Panda fired up first turn of the key.
I then used it to jump start the Micra so it could be put back on the driveway and set off home with the window open so I could see where I was going.
So now the moment at least three people have been waiting for...
...I won't be able to see the car in daylight until Thursday, but I haven't found any rust at all, the passenger side headlight's cracked (I have one in my shed/loft/bedroom cupboard), one tail light doesn't work and I need to fix the fan. M.O.T'd until August (so qualifies for the £999 Challenge in June!) but the road fund license ran out the end of January. 50,375 miles and I'm only the third owner. I would have taxed the car on line but it would have been sent to the ladies address not mine as the V5 and disc would get crossed in the post. The four speed box (remember those?) is a little bit noisy (possibly due to being stood in three feet of snow). I'll find out more Thursday when I can drive the car properly and see where I'm going.
More later but I think the Guff racer will end up donating a lot of bits to this car.

Legacy of the Invisible Car....
...
I have a few jobs to do and I'll take some daylight photo's of the car later.

Either Thumbsnap doesn't support Opera users or the green is too bright for the Pistonheads servers to handle.

I had a look at setting up my own thumbsnap account but it want's me to join twitter first.
I'd rather use crayons than join that I.Q draining, popularity contest with delusions of grandure.
I've switched back to Windows Explorer and renamed the photo to see if it's an Opera issue...
...nope it hasn't worked again.

So here in glorious Thumbsnapnecolour is my Panda.
So in the cold light of day she's a bit of a shed.
The usual rust spots...
...nothing to worry about.
Also showing signs of the cars age...
...bent rear bumper (invisible car syndrome)...
...had a look underneath to see if the braket was salvagable...
...and found more rust.
Whatever cracked the headlight...
..also broke the grille. Possibly a Pheasant or Grouse. A very unique Tartan interior...
...most important I managed to get the heater working. The contact points of the switch were dry. I'll give the car a wash and tidy up tomorrow as it's half term and I have been distracted by little people today.

First day out in the Panda today. I'd forgotten how ropey narrow tyres are. £71.50 to rent the car from the DVLA for six months and half a tank of Tesco's finest Petrol for £20! (when I had my first Panda in 1998 it was £20 per tank). Gave the car a good clean and installed a decent stereo.
There's a PPC run what you brung day at Santa Pod at the end of March. Do I take the car as standard or start modification right away as the £999 Challenge is in June and I'll be pressed for time?
