Titanic II - IMDB rating 1.6 out of 10

Well, for a laugh (and as it's free on Prime), I thought I'd give this a watch in case it was actually one of those that are so bad that they are good/amusing.

Just a warning for anyone thinking the same - don't bother - it has to be the worst piece of film making I've ever seen.

Plot - rubbish - it's not possible for a Tsunami to travel faster than the speed of sound
Continuity - rubbish - the boat had 4 funnels, then 3 then 4 then 3. Name on bow, no name, name on bow, no name....
CGI effects - rubbish - I think they were probably done on a BBC micro, or ZX 81
Acting - yep, in line with the above.

Rating - 1 dodgy plot line out of 10 dodgy tidal waves. Complete waste of time.

... on a better note:

Bright - Netflix film.

Will Smith as a cop in a futuristic world where humans live with Orcs, and he has to partner the first Orc cop as part of diversity measures.
Strange mix of cop buddies against the bad guys, with pixies, fairies, and a major battle over a magic wand.

Sounds strange, but it actually worked quite well and was an enjoyable couple of hours.

IMDB rates it as 6.4 overall but strange metacritic score of 2.9 - several user reviews suggest critics/Hollywood may not have a good opinion of Netflix independent stuff generally?

A solid 7 angry Orcs out of 10 pixie spells.

Some say training day with orks and elves. Some things about it are great. Not Will Smith though.

Sounds a very similar concept to Alien Nation.

I came away actually liking Hugh Grant far more. Yes, the first few minutes were a bit cringe but I was still in Paddington 2 mode I think? I just saw the whole film as a cartoonesque entertainment as opposed to something attaining critical acclaim. I enjoyed it. 8/10
Just back from seeing this. I liked it, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell were both great characters in it.

Avengement - a British sort of revenge backstory revelation film. Despite the usual indestructibility nonsense, it actually pans out into a decent storyline and ending. 7/10
Agreed not too bad and he did look like a right hard bd..

a star is born

did not really grab me as i didn't feel much between the two.... perhaps need a better director than bc himself, her singing his love song at the end like every generic pop ballad also didn't do anything to help the film imho

Each to their own.

Watched it last night and loved it. The fight seems although a bit clunky in some areas are inventive and new. The gun fight in the pool for instance, the armoured hi table guys so John has to improvise , loading his guns, quad loading shotguns and using match savers etc. The dogs were great. More of the lore with the adjudicator.

I know I won’t convince anybody and I wouldn’t try but all three films are awesome.

We all like different stuff but there are I believe more to these films than most.

The Dead Don't Die. 2019.
Zombie flick with Bill Murray, Iggy Pop, Selina Gomez, Danny Glover and a few others.

In my top 3 lousiest films ever, absolute garbage. 1/10.

Agree with both of the above. It could use a tighter script but is purely a caper. Colin Farrell the highlight for us.

Sort of with camp dial on 11

If you like his gangster movies you will enjoy it, just doesn’t have the impact of the first ones as you’ve seen it all before

The Gentlemen - usual Ritchie fare, gangsters, guns, swearing and geezers. Hugh Grant as the slimey pap is the highlight 7/10
Went along the other morning to see that thinking it would be empty but was sold out, so have replanned it for tomorrow.

Watched Snatch the other night to get me in the mood, but am hoping in the twenty years that have passed, it's moved up a gear.

You description doesn't inspire me too much. frown

Saw it today and have to say it was excellent.

Stylish, witty, entertaining and nowhere near as 'geezerish' as I was expecting.

Grant/McConaughey/Farrell were all excellent. Agreed about the couple of minutes of Grant climatisation, but that's down to our own pre-conceptions.

Well worth a cinema trip.

Won't mark it out if ten, but will say my wife who really isn't a 'film fan' loved it.

Having listened to a podcast about the real life case the other day I watched Zodiac yesterday. Not knowing about the murders before I found it very interesting, scary to have a serial killer with no real MO, just liked killing random people.

The movie itself was good but waayyy too long, could easily have lost 40 minutes. 7/10

And in preparation for Le Mans ‘66 tomorrow night, I watched Le Mans again today on it’s amazing Blu-ray remaster. Great film but it still amazes me how little dialogue there is in it. The in car footage is mind blowing for that time too. 8/10
Le Mans 66

Oh dear.

I won't even bother going through all the factual inaccuracies as they are many and legion and there are a lot of people on here who can list them much better than me. So lets just pretend that its Rocky with cars.

Sporting movie cliches 101 checklist:

(sweeping generalisations ahoy!)

1.) Plucky underdog who has to stop doing what he loves because of circumstances beyond his control? Check
2.) Grumpy genius who rubs people up the wrong way but the plucky underdog can see is a genius and wants to promote him as a surrogate? Check
3.) Wife of the grumpy genius who basically rolls her eyes a lot, sheds the odd tear but stands by her man unto the end? Check
4.) Boo hiss foreign villain? Check
5.) Hard bitten but essentially kind hearted corporate boss who believes in Plucky underdog and grumpy genius just enough to give them millions to do an impossible task? Check
6.) Cute kid who worships his dad and somehow 'helps' with something on the project? Check
7.) Boo hiss corporate bad guy who takes a dislike to grumpy genius and his kid for no good reason & will hold it against him for the whole film? Check
8.) Cheating foreigners? Check
9.) Robbed of victory at the last minute by boo hiss corporate bad guy but its ok because everyone knows who is the moral victor? Check
10.) Very sad epilogue? Check

By the way I don't mean any disrespect to the events and characters portrayed in the movie, I just think that its a shame they had to 'alter' events to fit the Hollywood template. But the movie as a Rocky style film is fun and is saved by Christian Bales excellent performance as Miles. As in most films he's in, he steals the whole thing.

P.S. If we can have a couple more Le Mans movies now that would be terrific. Its such an amazingly dramatic event there are plenty of other stories to be told.

1995 Mclaren, 2016 Toyota, 1988 Jaguar and 1991 Mazda just for a start and that's before you go further back into the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Of the Le Mans and motorsport 'stories', the most well known outside of us here in PH and in car-nut land would be Ford/Ferrari in Le Mans 66 and Hunt/Lauda (done in Rush). Not many people would know or care about McLaren, Toyota, Jaguar or Mazda.
