If you've always fancied a bit of prize money to reward your efforts and keep one of these big beasts in tyres, have a look at this for 2012:-

MORELLO SERVICES – THUNDERSPORT GP1 2012 (release 1 of 12)

After an initial year as title sponsor of the Thundersport GP1 (inc Superstock 1000) grid, Steve Buckenham was so delighted with the coverage and the quality of competition, that the Morello Services boss has signed up for a second season as title sponsor.

Not only will Morello Services once again be funding the extensive TV coverage for the class, he has also decided to give the championship contenders a generous prize fund to chase. The purse will be worth £5 per championship point as the season progresses and the contenders rack up their credits.

POINTS MAKE PRIZES

To activate their credits each rider must have 7 championship race finishes (whether point scoring or not) which can be achieved in just 3 meetings, as there are 3 championship races per event.

Once a rider reaches 60 championship points during the course of the season, including any scored during those first three events, £300 of prize money will be automatically allocated to his/her championship account.

From round 3 onwards, 50% of the prize money will be paid out in cash during the Sunday TV podium presentations, with the other 50% being ‘banked’ for each riders end of season prize cheque at the presentation evening.

A modest Morello Services sticker/graphic will be supplied and will be required to be displayed on each machine to qualify for prize money.

(location to be set out in the Supplementary Regulations)

The above sponsorship equates to significant funding to help all riders contesting the Thundersport GP1 championship and we would like to thank Morello Services on behalf of all of our competitors for their faith and commitment to the Thundersport GB sporting ethos. Check out www.thundersportgb.com for the whole picture.

A Pre-National 1000 series might well naturally follow, if the Pre-National 600 Sport series is as successful as it looks very likely to be.

We don't have room for another class at the moment, as if we go beyond 9 classes it means we either have to take on more dates (not a good idea at the moment) or cut down on track time for the current classes (not something we are ever likely to do).
I think I know why you've asked, because the impetus behind introducing the Pre-National 600 Sport class was the number of people contacting us and saying they wanted to race at our events, but were intimidated by the pace at the front of our Superstock 600 & Formula 600 classes.

When it costs so much to go racing, nobody likes the idea of being lapped and therefore losing out on that extra lap of track time that the riders that are still getting up to speed probably need more than anyone else. The longer race distances that we run probably exacerbates the problem of riders getting lapped too, so there was certainly a need for a more novice/clubman friendly class.

Getting lapped on an 8 lap race of Brands Hatch is unlikely, but when you are running 18 lappers around there, a rider doesn't have to be far off the pace to be a lap down at the end of proceedings. We did have similar issues in the early days of the MRO Powerbike Tour(2000-2005), but back then riders had the option of dropping back into the BMCRC - Southern Championship or the BMCRC Nationwide Championships which were both much more novice orientated.

Thundersport GB isn't like that, it's one self contained package and although we do have Thundersport 500 and Streetfighters, which are both very novice friendly classes, not everyone wants to give up racing a sports bike just to be in with a chance of being more competitive.

Cost is also an issue for some riders who simply cannot afford to update to the latest machinery and they are able to be more competitive in this arena. Not everyone wants to take the fast track to Moto GP, there are a huge number of riders who just want to have fun riding their bike as fast as they personally can in a safe environment.

(I did try to register as "David Stewart" but the Eurythmics bloke obviously got there first...)
