I don't thinks that's going to happen unfortunately - not through 'official' channels anyway, due to the age - I've asked frown

Sorry Gary but I wouldnt really call that "hacked" but give us a little bit more time and the startup will be well and truly HACKED with a completely custom animation (Not just HSV, Holden or Chev as from GM wink So far you will just have to put up with the background logo as hacked like this wink

or a little vid of the menus hacked:

Thanks Jez - Of course, I meant to say 're-programmed' as it was done using official GM Software and tools smile Hopefully see more of you on here smile

6 months ago we got the background cracked on the IQ units so you could have what ever you wanted on there and started working on the start up animation. We kinda left it there for a bit as we got distracted with other projects, more GMLAN stuff, S1 radios, spending weeks trying to crack a CRC/Checksum, life, wives, girlfriends etc. Recently we have just renewed the efforts on it. Here is the results smile

All flashed through the OBDII port and don't have to remove the head unit at all.

Just a quick black and white animation to show you but you can have any full 16bit colour 30 frame animation. A bit of a step up from the custom animations on the series 1 radios which were only 6 frames

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np3pHssCUBs
As with the other background stuff etc, this took MONTHS of mucking around, 100s of flashes, lots of head scratching and plenty of time staring at a hex editor and driving to work with a dead head unit and no A/C until I could flash it again
Big thanks to SteveG8 as always for his help

I am always incredibly impressed when people take the time and gather the know how to do this. I had a faily extensive look into what would be requierd to do this at home and for a one off I am not sure it makes any sense for me. This was for stripping the radio down and flashing EEPROM directly though, which though physically relatively easy to do would still require me getting the equipment and then hours of reseach trying to learn how to turn the flippin' VIM off because the hex location is not shared anywhere online, plus anything extra would be more hours.

The OBDII port solution is such a neat solution. I'd get the physical gear to do this IF I knew how to go about the process... however I completely understand why people just don't want to give up the info they have spent ages gathering, for free.

Over here in Oz the JHP guys want $400 (with a partial refund for returning the OBD unit) for a one time flash for JUST the VIM. If I got to tweak the animations as I wanted this might be more palletable, or I could use the OBD unit for further diagnostics etc.

Anyway, nice work on figuring this out, I just don't have the time or knowledge to do it myself. If this is doable with OBDII at home and anyone feels compelled to let me in on the secret PM me!

You cannot disable the VIM, change logos, add RSE, turn on Rear Cam etc with trying to flash the EEPROM like the old units. You HAVE to change it via OBDII wink So you will have to:

Work out how the system works
Build flashing hardware
Breakdown the GMLAN packets
Workout the security system algorithm for the radio to unlock it (there are 65535 possible permutation PER radio)
Decode the system files
Work out the strange image format
Write software to encode new images and memory offsets
Recode the files
Break the Checksum/CRC
Recalculate the CRC/checksum
Repack files
Upload with the hardware you built

Yeah .. it's a pain. I've done all the reading, recon I could do it. But it's a lot of cost in hardware, learning and pulling the car apart, that I really don't have the patience for any more.

I've just installed an after-market SatNav option into the stock screen. It needed a GM LAN box to fool the car into thinking it has SatNav (now works from the stock button).

I really want VIM though for my TV.

Hypothetically speaking...

If someone wrote a step py step guide to do this (VIM, maybe change startup screen, enable rear camera etc)...what do would be the minimal time and money input to DIY it? Assuming 100% generosity of information....?

There's admittedly a steep learning curve. I've spent hundreds of hours and £300-400 minimum on equipment and a test head unit to butcher.

Enabling VIM is seen as a rite of passage, the information on how to do it isn't given out (for numerous reasons actually, primarily to stop fly-by-night ebayers profiteering off someone elses hard work). That said, you can be shown a direction and you need to start walking in it smile

Two very useful web pages that'll get you going are as follows;
The CarModder forums* are a great resource to start learning but there's an ethos of standing on your own two feet. The more you demonstrate you know and the more you contribute, the more doors open up. If you think you're gonna rock up and learn everything in a week, you're mistaken I'm afraid. It's a community built around progress, as an example one of the things I did to help was to document all the packets that get sent regarding the HVAC controls so that people could do away with the stock head unit if they chose.

* It's actually where I met Jez (jezzab2), crazy Aussie b*****d took pity on me and we've been mates ever since wink

Desperately need help with the Holden iq on a Captiva 7 2015. Movies not seen on FAT32
MBR SD card. Movies are
MP4 and conform the requirements as per the hand book. Iq sees folders on sd. Nothing else. I'm and I.T it shouldn't be this hard. Is it work emailing Holden?
