Jaguar X300 XJR aka XJR6 aka X306
Discussion
we meet again Ecurie....we were chatting on a previous XJR thread a year or so about the time i bought a 99 xjr....and of course you are dead right on the shakespeare thing.....being Jagless is not nice.....but being XJR less is torture.....so I'm pleased that you have got back in the saddle....especially with an X300 XJR
Which coincidentally just happened with me...but i wasn't XJR less still having the 99...however I really wanted an X300 XJR again.
the X308 is a great cat. And I bought the 99 coz i loved the dash board! but doesn't have the same soul as the X300 somehow
So when i saw a 96 come up last week i jumped at it....2 owner, 5 speed getrag manual gearbox
, andy stoddard sensor bracket, 12.5% bigger crank pulley for the blower, CAI....all in all a credit to its former keeper of 12 years who looked after it and enjoyed it.
Unfortunately as a result of it being enjoyed its got quite high miles, saggy headlining, bad arches and blisters here and there but i suppose i have to take the bad with the good being as manuals don't come around that often, but being that as it is, it deserves the effort to restore it
Just call me 'two jags' for now anyway but i think the 99 will have to go

Didn't even think you could get a manual?
I've never seen a manual one before, I guess they are super, super rare then?
God knows why there are not more manuals considering The manual was an option for the X300 but It got bad press for being heavy duty in a car that was sold on a luxury pitch.
However this car is an expensive conversion the last owner did five years back using all jag parts and a new getrag 5 speed box, so its as factory, but not done by factory.....
It was also an ivory interior car originally and the previous owner put the black interior in it....
Why did all jag buyers opt for auto with ivory leather....duh....This is my fourth XJR, two previous X300s, an X308 presently....all auto, all ivory....This latest addition is indeed a pleasant change from the norm even if it's not original

black with black inserts....the right stuff
best of luck with your issues....I remember fixing a few mystery bugs on my 300's and no doubt will have to fix a few more in due course...they have a few clever bits and pieces on them but at least you don't need a degree in physics to work them out...you simply have to work through them...how many being the determining factor in the final cost of the fix
Dont forget to check your engine / gearbox / body electrical earth straps....the root of many an X300 evil
Im getting a set of 17" original wheels like yours....original looks so good on these cars...simply says XJR with one look
Nice plate btw....my 99 is V10 XJR

This thread is not helping! I have lusted after an XJR for some time now! I fancy getting an XJR V8 but a friend's X308 on a Y Plate seeemed like a right money pit! The X300s seem lovely but there does seem to be a bit of dross for sale out there.
I shall be keeping an eye on this
.
If you think of any Xjr as a money pit risk....you will be right at some point or anotherI shall be keeping an eye on this

Its more a case of not if but when, but really also depends on how much you plan on driving it...due to being overseas mostly my cars get driven about 600 miles
On whether you should get one the answer is simply yes!...beautiful design, great drivers car, lots of readily available parts (unless, as im finding out, you are trying to rebuild the rotating assemblies on an xjr6 engine)...classic car insurance, lower rate road tax...increasing rarity !!
These 'how many left' sites are not entirely accurate but you could safely say that 'in the uk' there are about 100 x300 xjr6 alive both on the road and worn....maybe 350 x308 V8's...don't know how many abroad...probably quite a few in US...but not that many in total
Clearly the x300 is more scarce and converted or otherwise there are probably less than 20 manual trans cars
Then there was the 308 Xjr 100 which was a limited run of ...100....and though the car maybe just badge engineering they hold their value best of all
Right now x300 prices are bottom and beginning to move up....x308 prices are almost as low as they can get given all the bad press that they had for nikasil failures and timing chain tensioner issue's
But with both marques continuing to go to the breakers over time we will soon be at the 'I wish I had bought one' stage..... Ford Capri case in point
The x300 and x308 are the last of the breed...the xjr's were the best of the breed
Buying one is not a decision based on much practicality. You just know you have to have one
I haven't driven an X300 XJR6 for years, but I miss having an X300 in my life and regularly look at them covetously. What I do wonder though, and you may be able to answer this, is if they seem "that fast" 20 years on? I know my 4.0 XJ6 would be troubled by the more powerful 2 litre TDi repmobiles, in no small part down to the 4 speed slush-o-matic, but the torque always felt lovely.
Ecurie....
I just saw this on the bay.....well surprised especially when you were so chuffed to get it.....how far gone is it
i ebayed you a message for parts but would be equally interested in buying it as is for the right money
I know the metal work on these is a pain....but i cant stand to see em dissapear
let me have a phone number to call you about it
