I'm having a bit of bother with Interparcel.
Has anybody got any contacts there or able to give any advice?
Have a long chain of emails but now penning a letter as not getting anywhere with them.

Parcel booked through Interparcel last Sun on a DPD next day delivery. Monday Pickup missed. Several follow ups from me and they finally collect Tue afternoon. No apology or offer to refund 'next day' payment as supposedly it is not guaranteed.

They note from my consist listing my parcel contains wine. The advise it's prohibited but as it's already in the system they will take it however I will not be able to claim the £50 cover if damaged. I agree.

Parcel is of course damaged. I'm told it will be sent back 200 miles to me.

Next I am told the recipient has to collect (10 miles away). They will not move it due to it containing broken glass and 'health and safety'.
I receive a photo of the damage. Box looks dry but bent. I would have thought if wine or beer bottles has broken it would be sodden.

Next I am told the recipient can't collect it and it is being returned to Interparcel (despite the previous H&S advice)

That was last Wed. Interparcel can't tell me where the parcel is, whether it will come back to me, what is happening with it, whether there was any leakage from the supposed break. All I'm getting is that it is being processed and 'someone' will email me.

I have spoken to DPD and they confirm the parcel was back with Interparcel on Fri.
Interparcel customer services team leader just repeat someone will email me. They don't know who, they don't know when. They won't provide a contact number or email and certainly won't get of their chair to go and speak to somebody in the same bloody building.

Frustrated!

Have you tried talking to the sender to see if they can do anything from their end?

Sorry to post this. It’s not me being clever with you or being patronising or sneering.
Unfortunately what you sent you shouldn’t have. It’s not just stuff on a restricted list that you sent. They are on a prohibited list. I took a quick look at their list and its VERY strict. That’s compared to other couriers. I was quite surprised at how strict it is. Then I looked on DPD’s site and they won’t take “liquids”. To be honest I think your parcel won’t be returned to you and no refund will be given. In your case I think you will be lucky to get anything from them. They even say “Prohibited Items”
“The following items are strictly prohibited from shipment, and must not be sent through our services under any circumstance. Any of these items being sent may result in prosecution, heavy fines and imprisonment.”

No problem, after looking at their list I was quite surprised but glad they said they would continue with the delivery.
I confirmed in writing I was happy to go without the damage insurance and I'm not looking for any payment from them.

I just want to know whether they will be returning the item, offering it for collection or disposing of it!
I have another £50 hamper here and don't know whether to send it or wait for return of the original items.
How I send it is another question! Parcelforce is very expensive and would need to check prohibited items.
Not sure if you can book through many couriers direct, have always used Interparcel.
Letter is written now anyway, will see what they come back with.

I am quite amazed at how many items are prohibited and do wonder why

You'll have got off light if all they do is confiscate and destroy it, the rules are there for liquids because they don't know what the liquid is and whether it's flammable , amazon got fined £65,000 for putting 2 lithium batteries in a packet bound for Ireland

What's in your £50 hamper then?

I can collect.

Try Parcel monkey or parcel2go.

Usually get cheap UPS deals on there but may not like liquids in glass bottles.

You do know what every courier throughout the world does to parcels don't you?

Contents need to be packaged to withstand nuclear war (hi CIA / MI5 wavey).

Given their rules and the clear breach (leaving you without any recourse), the cynic in me says the contents have already disappeared...

It was actually a gift for the dealer as they did a great job in prepping my car.
Couple of bottles of decent wine. Some locally brewed ale, some premium lager. Box of chocs, a box of biscuits, and of course a nice card.

It's not the value, it's more the effort which I'm sure they would have appreciated.
Interparcel took the items knowing what was in them so not sure I can be held to account. I'm more annoyed with their lack of customer service than anything else.
If they've been sent to be 'destroyed' just bloody say so and stop keeping me hanging on!

Planning to go see and old mate on the South coast in a few weeks so may just make a diversion and deliver in person. Have just been gifted a late Christmas hamper so I'll re-gift that. Not as personal but better than nothing.

Finally got a reply

Interparcel said:
Good morning,
With regards to the above order. Your goods have been returned back to our address as they were damaged.
I can confirm that we have carried out an inspection and there is 8 bottles / 2 sweet boxes / 1 card.
Please can you confirm where you would like the goods delivering to?
Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Just reply nicely back to you and hope for the best. If they come back I genuinely think you got off lightly.

Aye I have done.

I think if these items were illegal that would be a different matter but it seems to me they just don't want to handle these types of things.
Regardless, they were fully aware of the contents and happy to take them on the basis on no damage cover which I agreed to.

Anyway, that was never really the issue, it was misinformation and subsequent lack of information on the delivery. That would have happened regardless of the contents.

Still waiting for a response to my request to redeliver but I'm hopeful that it will get to it's destination.

Just a note

It's only Interparcel who prohibit the goods on their lists not the couriers themselves. We will carry pretty much anything yet Interparcel have dozens of prohibited items that we will carry quite happily. I believe it is something to do with their liability and the agreements they have with the courier companies. I remember when Interparcel first came about, people were trying to ship ovens and the like for about £15

Just to finish this off, the parcel was delivered very quickly following my request.

I have just had a response to my letter. They have replied by email which is a little surprising. Can't say I'm that impressed by the contents but considering that my parcel has been delivered now I'm happy to accept it.

It depends whether the good are going out of the country or not. What they have probably done is just put a blanket ban on every destination to avoid confusion and you may find if it's in this country it could get there, if it's going abroad then not.
It is probably the same rule that is applied to passengers on any aircraft.
