Jaguar XJ220 25th Anniversary celebrations at Silverstone
Discussion
Hi there,
Had an amazing day at the Silverstone Classic today.
This event is getting quite pricey at £66 per ticket but boy oh boy was it worth it today.
Ever since I went to the NEC motorshow in the late 80's and saw the concept of the XJ220 it has been the iconic poster car for me. A lot of people it is the Countach or the F40, but for me its the 220.
It was superb to see all the cars both parked up in the paddock and also out on track for a a couple of laps. Especially nice to see the three Le Mans cars and the Yellow XJ220S which I haven't seen in person for a few years. I love the standard car but there does seem to be a few owners who have 'modified' their cars to look just like the 'S', all told today there were four 'S' look a likes which I guess are ok but not my cup of tea.
Hope you enjoy the pics: -
and a few from the track laps
Regards
Tim

Thanks for the pictures OP
This was my poster car too. I was in love with this car from the moment I saw it, and still am. I love the side profile and rear especially. That long rear deck looks sensational.
I would love to own one, but prices are now way out of reach.
Question - what modern car captures the ethos of the XJ220 most closely? In other words, if you were an XJ220 owner, and you had to replace it with the nearest modern equivalent, what would you choose?

What's in the box?
Watched it the first time it went up the hill at Goodwood. Where the hell do you find a xj220 engine going spare
So, it was one of the first recipients of one of those engines, and is arguably even more special than the finished car, as there's only one left.

It wasn't going spare, it was used as a test bed during development of the car to get miles on the engine and gearbox.Funnily when I was little I didn't think that the XJ220 was a rare car - live just down the road from Haynes Motor Museum and where they used to produce and print the manuals, and used to see Mr Haynes out in his car (now it lives in the museum) pretty regularly. Obviously never twigged that it was the same car every time.
Last year went round the workshops and they had it with the engine and gearbox out whilst doing a fuel tank replacement.

It's great to see them finally getting the respect they deserve because they're glorious cars.
I too am not a fan of putting the S style bodywork on normal cars, just serves to confuse people whenever they see one. Especially now that the non S variants wearing it have had the side strip removed to show the same smooth bodywork as the originals.
It's great to see the XJ220C's but things have gotten really confusing here.
The three that ran at Le Mans in 1993 were #50, #51 and #52 (C chassis 1, 2 and 3) but one here is wearing #53?
The other one here is wearing the PC livery from Le Mans 1995 and IIRC there were four C variants made so that would cover all four but still doesn't explain the 1993 liveried car wearing #53?
One of them was/is owned by a Japanese man and only recently returned to 1993 livery after wearing the 1995 PC livery without most of the sponsor decals. It's the #52 car and wears that number now so what's the deal with the #53? And where has the PC car come from?
The bodywork/shell at least for one of the PC cars (chassis 4) was for sale a few years back so if that's been built up back into a full car again that would explain that one.

Also the Italian GT ERG car really needs to be put back to the original bodywork like the Martini car because it never had a wing nor the S front whilst racing in that series.
No. 50 - #220837
No. 51 - #220836 - this is the #58 PC car
No. 52 - #220838 - this was the #57 PC car now returned to 1993 livery in Japan
No. 53 - ?
The spare chassis 4 for sale should've been #220839

.#53 was built up from the spare. Numbers in this link are wrong, but if you assume that they mean #52 & #53 instead of #52 & #52, it makes sense:
