JD Classics' GT40 at Spa Six Hours: Time For Tea?

Thought driving a GT40 looked scary? Wait until you've seen it through Eau Rouge. In the dark...

An admission, first off: this is not arms flailing, jaw dropping GT40 video in the Kenny Brack mould. It's a more refined, more luxurious production, though none the worse for it.

It documents JD Classics' recent effort at the Spa Six Hours, running a gorgeous GT40 with Chris Ward and Andrew Smith driving. More than just a simple onboard, it dives right into the atmosphere of this legendary event - celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017 - to see what makes it so special.

There's driving as well though, don't worry. Oh, is there driving. Wait until the end, when a car seemingly with cigarette lighters for headlamps is scurrying up Eau Rouge in the dark, and you'll wonder how anything made it to the end. It's truly terrifying. In the less scary moments (i.e. when there's daylight) the car still look rather intimidating - if quite good fun too - low and loud as it slides around Spa.

This video has the additional advantage of archive narration from Bruce McLaren too, discussing what a great racing car it was. A nice little touch, and one that makes this video all the easier to recommend - get the kettle on and enjoy!

I was there, it was a great race. This was his pit board over the last 10 mins followed by a lot of celebrating on the pit wall.

It sure looked great when they tucked it back in its trailer.
