Factories are closing; V8 Supercars is now the Virgin Australia Supercar Championship, with turbo V6s coming; and only 15 of these GTS-Rs are making it to the UK. Truly a sign of the bleak times ahead for fans of Australian muscle cars.

The GTS-R is a traditional, a four-door saloon powered by a supercharged V8, with all of its 595hp going to the rear wheels. When Matt drove it earlier this week, he found it more comfortable, engaging and, er, really, really fast. It truly is a car like no other.

The picture you see here was taken early in the morning ahead of the track outing at Donington where it managed a respectable 5.3mpg... As perhaps the last of this kind of analogue super saloon, the GTS-R absolutely deserves to be celebrated - get it on your desktop now!

On a side note, does anyone really have 4:3 any more? Can't we have 3:2 now please, that's what my Surface is.
