Porsche 911 GT3 Touring: Pic of the Week

A wingless GT Porsche in the south of France... What more could you want?

Is it possible to talk about the latest crop of Porsche GT cars without mentioning the 911 R? Probably not. And of course it remains a sore subject for some, its limited edition (and hugely desirable) status arguably undermined by the arrival of the GT3 Touring. But then that means there's an argument to say that the new manual-only 911 is perhaps the most covetable around...

It's definitely an understated car when compared to its fixed-wing counterpart. Without it, you are able to see how much wider the rear is when compared to a base 911, and how much better it looks for it, too. Big-bottomed 911s are the best 911, right?

As with the normal GT3, it is fitted with the 4.0-litre flat-six that redlines at 9,000rpm and makes 500hp. Combine that with Porsche Motorsport's dynamic know-how plus a stunning ribbon of tarmac in the south of France and you have a perfect dream drive. Oh and a Pic of the Week to tide you over until 2018 - Happy New Year!

Apparently the pensioner driving is quite useful behind the wheel of one.

We can go on and on but other cars and we still up with Porsche GT cars as the icons. Usable depreciation proof and in my mind very beautiful cars. I just marvel as each iteration simoly gets better. Happy Christmas everyone.

A wing because it's a GT3 ;-)

The perfect road 911. Wings are for track heads and traditionalists. No value for the mountains, except as a picnic table ;-)

Errrr........the rear isn't wider than a base 911. It's a GT3 which is narrow body whereas the GT3 RS has the wide body (like a GTS or Carrera 4 etc).

Since launch in 1999, the GT3 had always been my default favourite sports/super car.....I went to a charity day once where you could pay £50 to be taken out in a Ferrari and instead went out with a guy who had brought along his GT3...

It just gets better with each generation...its n/a when nearly everything else has gone over to turbos, it has proper motorsport pedigree and you can get it with a manual box now too......

..at Autocar's annual Drivers Car event two weeks back (which obviously it won), the current GT3 went around Castle Combe only 0.3 seconds slower than a McLaren 720S.....pretty much says it all really.....

Enjoy it while you can, I can't imagine these will be around for many more years in the ICE form........

isn't GT3 the wider C4 body and GT3RS the wider still turbo body?

A GT3 touring. I came here for the Porsche estate car. Saw yet another 911 so left rather disappointed.
