One-off Ferrari 'Prototipo' due today

The 'most extreme Special Project' yet from Ferrari will be shown this afternoon - here's the teaser

All Ferraris are special cars; even the most common, least powerful, least fondly remembered ones. Some, however, are clearly more special than others. There are the limited edition track weapons for starters, cars like the 488 Pista and F12 TdF, the V12 hypercars and then the really extreme things, the Special Project cars like the SP38, SP America and this car, the Prototipo.

Set to be revealed this afternoon, the Prototipo has been previewed on Ferrari's Facebook page with some moody design sketching sessions and a brief snippet of testing at Fiorano. As is often the way with these things, there's not a great deal to be discovered. Certainly it's a dedicated track car, the aesthetic clues giving that away before the 488 Challenge wheels are bolted on and it's sent on circuit. There are louvres, spoilers and spats aplenty, the Prototipo aggressive and purposeful even by Ferrari's standards.

So what is it? Nobody seems all that sure just yet, although with the project to be detailed in full later today there are only a few hours to wait. Some rumours have suggested it's a LaFerrari-based creation, though we'd say from here it looks and sounds more like one of the turbo V8 cars. Who knows? Let's see what emerges come 2pm...

Considering this wasn't known about, this is how to do a teaser - no painful drawn out nonsense, everything out in a day!

There was no room inside for a coin holder so i spec'd it on the wing. Should keep the 50p's upright

teasing something that isn't for sale?

i'm sure it'll look fantastic though, many of the one offs look better than the official cars

I am more interested in it saying "no step" is the potential owner a bit of a plane fanatic?

If it’s a one-off does that mean the bonnet shut-lines are sorted ?

The past few 812s I’ve seen have had the bonnet installed by a drunkard.

So it is called the P80/C.

488 GT3 as a base, track only.

Started back in 2015!

more likely to be around £6-10m

ferrari have been developing this car for years and actually put time into the dynamics/aero/etc

it's a beautiful car but objectively will perform worse than an fxx-evo and costs 4-6x the price.

Quite possibly!! beer
Lovely looking but you expect it to be perfect for that list price + extras!

The bonnet gap is visible on these Motorsport pics- Note this gap seems to be there on some of them even when not cornering at 25G..

Looks nice .... I'm sure the owner will be well chuffed.

If I was spending a load of money on a one-off Ferrari I think it would have to be a road car rather than track only (and buy a 488 GT3 for the track) - but each to their own. Wish I was in a position to be able to have the choice! smile

Looks like the front and the back were designed by two different people imo. Anyhow I'm sure the new owner will be thrilled with it. Good for them, even if it cost $1 billion dollars.

On that point, I wonder who will be first to charge a billion for a car? Please don't anyone say it wouldn't sell....

Edit to add, I might be stretching it slightly at a billion, but that would include lots of gold and Dubai plates...
