Lynk & Co in the WTCC: Time for Tea

The first episode of a 12-part series documents this Chinese brand's ambitions for a world title

Ahead of the second round of the 2019 World Touring Car Cup, championship newcomer Lynk & Co has put out the first part of a 12-episode documentary to illustrate its ambitions of becoming the first Chinese brand to win the title. The brand’s year has already got off a flying start, with its team scoring well at the first round to leave Lynk & Co second in the standings – although with 2017 championship-winning Cyan Racing behind the operation, few people expected anything different.

Still, Lynk & Co is eager to emphasise the challenge that was presented to the Swedish racing outfit, which was previously called Polestar and is better known for its use of Geely stablemate Volvo’s products in motorsport. There’s obviously no shortage of knowledge and experience within the squad, but you don’t need to be an engineer to understand that getting an all-new racer, the 03 saloon, ready to compete at this level is no simple task. Cyan was provided with a completely blank slate - like PH with our EnduroKA! A bit.

In the first of its documentary episodes, Lynk & Co takes us behind the scenes of Cyan Racing in the run up to and during the Marrakech opener for the 2019 season. The WTCC is a hard-fought series with racing so close it can be difficult to pick out a favourite for the title even towards the year’s latter stages, but Cyan has called upon some of the best drivers in touring cars, including former champs Yvan Muller and Andy Priaulx, to lead the charge. Already, it’s shaping up to be quite the story worthy of attention – even if only to boost the chances of that road concept making production…
