I'm planning to order about 2 bulk bags of topsoil for the garden (laying turf), it will be delivered at the front of the house. The problem is, the house is "terrace" house and we do not have a driveway or somewhere bigger to keep these bags, very small entrance actually. Most of the topsoil suppliers delivery terms mention that they only deliver to the curb side. All these bags also need to be shifted to the back of the house, in wheel barrow loads I assume but it will take ages. Any suggestions? I've read hiring "crane" but that seems like OTT a bit?

Wheelbarrow and man up ha ha! I barrowed 6 tonnes of hardcore and gravel into back garden last year for a landscaping project. Felt it afterwards!

I do not think I've got enough space to fit these bulk bags into the front part of the house though? I guess people won't be happy if I leave them on the curb while going back and forth with wheelbarrow...

Jesus, what a nightmare, there is no access from the backgarden.

I think I just order smaller, 20kg bags instead.

Install a conveyor belt.

Better still, a monorail!

If you've got a straight run then a small conveyer belt...

Alternatively, spend the money on some labourers. But there's only one route it can take...

Wheelbarrow, a couple of bits of wood for a ramp up and down into the house and some polythene sheeting to protect flooring. If you can get the ramps right then it should be pretty stable. I'm probably going to have to do this at some point in the future although i've only a utility room to worry about.

2 tonnes isnt a massive amount so if it goes onto the front path it wont be there long. Enjoy the exercise!

A bulk bag has a capacity of around 900litres, which is only about 12 wheelbarrow loads.
Shouldn't take you long to shift it.

Depending on the price difference I'd suggest going for small bags instead. I did similar recently, but couldn't face the hassle/mess of wheelbarrowing it all.

Had three of us back and forth carrying a bag or two each. Didn't take long.

Do you have any front garden? Some deliveries are by HIAB, which could drop the bags there, the bags are about 120x120cm so the garden doesn't have to be huge. Still wheelbarrow through house as above, but at your own pace!

I'm buying smaller bags instead. 20kg, which means around 60-70 bags. I just looked at the price difference between bulk bags, literally there is almost no difference. (London Topsoil company)

I do not mind wheelbarrowing really, I just removed nearly 2 tones of crap gravel from the back garden. It's just loads of work done in the kitchen and the entrance, so going back and forth would damage some of the areas now.

Get a few buckets/rubble buckets, invite some mates round and pay them with beer to help carry it through the house.

You’ll have it done in 1/2 hour and get a beer up out of it at the same time.

Is there a chance the track could bend?

I did the same with gravel a few months back. 6 bulk bags over 2 days. Took just under an hour a bag with a few breaks here and there

Thanks, I just ordered with small (25l) bags actually, premium topsoil which hopefully do the work. I will wheelbarrow them from entrance to the back garden, will be much quicker and clean.

no access from the neighbouring properties unfortunately.

It's school summer hols. Twenty quid to a couple of local lads will go down well and if your missus is a looker, get her to wear a low top and ideally no bra. You'll have the lads falling over themselves to help - may even drop the rate to a tenner
