Jannarelly Design-1 UK Edition revealed

Low volume manufacturer signals its entry into the UK market with five unique variants of its retro sports car

Jannarelly's Design-1 roadster first caught our attention last year, its retro looks, 325hp V6 and 810kg kerb weight ticking all the right boxes for a pared back driver's car. We liked it even more after we got behind the wheel during Salon Prive, the slick six-speed manual transmission, low-down seating position and steering rack borrowed from a Lotus Elise, all contributing to a thoroughly memorable B-road blast.

Now, in homage to the nation which calls itself home to the very concept of the diminutive two-seat sports car, Jannarelly is launching a limited-run 'UK Edition'.

Limited to just five examples, the UK Edition has been created to celebrate the manufacturer's official arrival on these shores, with each car featuring an engine cover and side blades emblazoned with the Union Jack. All five machines come in Coupe specification with a full-carbon fibre body as standard - usually £7,500 and £12,000 options respectively - a set-up which further reduces the Design-1's mass to a flyweight 760kg.

Red, White, Blue, Grey and, of course, Green paint finishes are available, each with a white surround for the front grille, reminiscent of vintage British racers. A metal UK Edition plaque completes the look.

Company co-founder, Anthony Jannarelly, said of the special edition: "The UK is widely regarded to have one of the largest and most dedicated automotive communities in the world and it felt only right to recognise our entry into this historic market with a special edition of the Design-1. The UK Edition cars truly reflect Britain's extensive racing heritage but utilise the very best of modern materials to offer customers a classic car experience with 21st century engineering and design. We're excited to welcome our UK Edition buyers to the Jannarelly family and look forward to seeing the cars out on the road."

Those Union Jacks and metal plaques will set you back a pretty penny, however. From a base price of £85,000 the Design-1 UK Edition is available to order from £115,549, a hefty premium even over a standard full-carbon car. Still, with the car's stunning looks, superb performance and exclusive status, we're sure Jannarelly won't have too much difficulty tracking down five willing buyers.

Quite like that/them. Interesting how 'modular' they've managed to do it - can 'regular' manufacturers ever do the same? Or have Jannarelly skipped some of the painful European type approvals to do it?

£100k for a weekend toy is perhaps a bit pricey for me these days, but I must say that this looks the absolute business! Really like the UJ treatment on the rear deck. I think I'd have that done even if I wasn't one of the first 5 to buy.

I tried to contact the manufacturer in 2016 and 2017, when I used to live in Dubai. I was interested in the early bird models for around 60000$.
It was not easy though, when I visited the garage twice or so, no one was there. So I thought the project is dead.
Good to see it is still running and finally have the approval for UK roads!

The Jebel Jais road featured in this video is a blast, I was multiple times there, a huge challenge for the heat management of each car though! My clutch on the 911 was jammed on the way home due to overheating of the clutch liquid. So I was stuck in one gear smile

The 650i convertible barge survived the punishment better smile

I wish them luck! Stunning car!

They look fantastic. Like a Cobra mated with a 240Z and new MX5!

Absolutely love the retro looks of these and the customisation possibilities available. My only concern would be the dealer network and specifically, aftersales care. So long as they can nail that, then I think Jannarelly have a bright future.

So rare to see a new, desirable car these days.
I hope they will get the success this design deserves.

Your only concern? Mine would be that, like almost every other manufacturer of its type, it will quietly disappear and you'll be left with an oddity that is unserviceable and only worth any money 50 years from now!

Be fine without all the union Jack rubbish, particularly at a time when it is utterly shameful to even be associated with the UK.

Who cares. They should give one to Chris Harris to review; that'll get them noticed...

I rather like this. It doesn't work 100% from all angles but, overall, I think it's a good looking car. Retro and modern all at once. It's not cheap, but it looks good and sounds good. Is a bit different too.

Hopefully they will make a success of it.

I do hope these guys do well, as spoke to them on their stand at Salon Prive last year for a while. I do think they have over priced it, as was shocked when they told me the price, however time will tell..

Lovely looking things.

And tyres with sidewalls! Amazing!

Embarrassing for TVR what this company has achieved in less time.

Drove one of these recently, it was certainly memorable. Not entirely convinced it was a well resolved car. They’ve done a hell of a job to get this far though and I hope they sell them all.

+1

Trust me on this one: There are more people over here, the other side of the Pond, who are pleased to be associated with the UK, than there are people in the UK.

Interesting. Can your share what you'd improve?

For example:

. . . a) Appears unfinished? Raw interior, impractical?

. . . b) Bit of a bodge? Yawning gaps, vibration, kit car fitment?

. . . c) Out of tune? Engine and transmission at odds, suspension not doing its job?
