Looks like the RCD on the sex pond is faulty:

Diagnosis based on - it was full of water, when dried out worked a bit but keeps tripping. Connecting the pond directly to a plug FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY it works fine.

I don't think there is anything fundamentally different between the above in-line RCD, and plugging directly into something like this:

other than that the in-line RCD forces you to use one.

Circuit is on RCBO at the consumer unit anyway. However electricity + pond + family needs due caution, natch. Thoughts?

The original is an ass covering device (for instances where there is no RCD etc), you have an RCBO so I see no reason to replace it.

My thoughts entirely.

I'm guessing that one has a trip current of 10mA, whereas the socket will be 30mA. It'll be fine though.

Is that condensation inside? It could be the RCD device itself is damp inside that's causing it to trip.

Nothing to add to the above, and I'm sure you've thought of this, but is it worth looking into why the old one was full of water (running down the cable, or just rain?) and making sure that can't happen in the new cable arrangement?

I'm hoping you are being sarcastic.

OP: what is the trip rating on the dead RCD? I wouldn't want to get into a hot tub fed with a 30mA trip.

Yes the old one is wet inside, rusty terminals on the input cable so assume that’s where the moisture was coming in, load side perfect condition.

Better sort that for the new one then, raise the RCD off the ground or similar smile
