Does anybody have any experience of getting bumpers rechromed?

if so how much is it likely to cost?
any good rechromers in or around north east hampshire?

thanks

After all the help and advice you have offered on here I would like to have been able to recipricate. Unfortunately I have never had rechrome work carried out but am going to embark on minor re-nickel work during the winter period. Apparantly there is a very good company in Cambridge who do this work, no doubt do chrome as well.Seen their work just need to track them down.

Hi Adrian,

Not exactly the area you asked for but Brian Purves, who is based in West Sussex, does rechroming work. I've seen examples of what he's done with regard to total retrims and chroming and it all looked extremely high quality. I'll be using him to do the bumpers, overriders etc on my Sunbeam.

Here's his site..some pricing examples on there too

www.bryanpurves.co.uk/

Hope that helps...he may point you in the direction of someone closer to you

Cheers

Best Electoplating in Crawley (which is not too far) 01293 532843. Reasonably priced and recommended to me by a chum that has had some decent quality nickel plating (A7 rad` shell) done.

I have also heard good things about Bryan Purves but this was in relation to trimming rather than plating.

I know of mr purves and he has a very good reputation.

I really need to know the approximate cost of bumpers as new ones can be bought for £280.

Thanks for the contacts I will investigate.

Rad` shell was about £50/60 for what it`s worth although I`m not sure how much preparation was required.

Are the new items pattern parts or original old stock? - the only reason I ask is that my father bought some repro` chrome bumpers for one of his cars and they proved to be of pretty dismal quality. I can`t remember which third world country they were made in but the chrome started peeling within eighteen months and he ended up rechroming the originals!

That is exactly why I want to rechrome.

On one of the cars we have up completely and removed the bumpers. It looks better that way but certainly won't suit many and is not very orginial

I dont know what car your bumpers are off, but a word of advice, if it is something exotic or expensive and the chromers ask, tell them it is off an old Austin or similar. I had the bumpers on my Bentley MKVI rechromed many years ago, the prices quoted were just stupid until I started saying theye were off an Austin.

they are from the GT6, but i have always done that where possible as I know they charge if they think you loaded.
