Guide on how to post a picture
Discussion
I often read queries about posting pictures. I thought, I'd compile some of the procedures to get a picture in a post.
done.
- 1.) The picture must be stored on a webserver (not on your harddrive)
To get your own picture on a webserver, use an internet picture service, such as www.fotango.com , or your own webspace which some ISP provide with their service (mostly long term contracts). See your ISP's guide on how to upload them to your webspace. - 2.) You need to know the address of your image.
This is simple: if you see a picture in your internet browser, move the mouse cursor over the picture an press the right mouse button. A menue appears:
Mozilla and Netscape: #Copy Image Location
Internet Explorer: #Image Properties
You'll see the address in that appearing window: select it, and copy it with the right mouse button #Copy - 3.) Now the address is stored in your clipboard. Go to your Gassing Station Post Reply in put field, and #RH mouse button #Paste the address.
- 4.) Now you have to put the [pic] code around the address to identify the address as an image's address and not as a link, which is default for http://www.* strings {see: www}
It should look exactly like this:
[pic]http://www.server.co.uk/folder/imagename.jpg[/pic]
done.

You don't need the [url] bits in there - it should be {pic}http://mysite.freeserve.com/tonywebspace/images/0-picture.jpg?0.46098995441170354{/pic}, but replace the curly brackets with square ones.

Okay let me give this a go. This is just what I need at the moment.
I've read what I'm supposed to do, but the last time I tried it didn't work

You've linked to a web page, rather than the picture on it. I think you wanted this URL: www.funnyjunk.com/pic/0384.jpg which gives:

Edited to say:
I got the URL for the pic by doing Bodo's right click on the picture, go to properties and highlighting the address bit of the properties page.

Is this right click business for a pc, as I am using a mac, will it be different in this case, or am I just being a useless woman??

Oh damn - a Mac user. I've got to admit I've no idea how you manage to get the info up with a Mac (short of changing to a PC

I think you had a few too many brackets in there.

As a computer numpty myself, I recomend pressing the qoute button of a post with a picture in it, then you can see what was typed to make a picture appear.
Edited to add, when you get it right, the image should appear in the Preview window.

It's supposed to read (I've changed the square brackets to curly ones so you can see the code) {pic}www.funnyjunk.com/pic/0239.jpg{/pic} like this

A useful tip if you ever want to see how someone has done something like this is to press 'quote' on their post so you can see their code.

Thanks for your post, I have been seeing how other people do it, by as you say pressing the quote button, but whatever I do it doen't work. I'm thinking the apple mac has a mind of its own.

Right this didn't work, the code looks exactly like what the other pics here do, so why the FCUK does'nt it work?????
This is the first time in 10 years I've had any trouble with an apple mac. I just can't understand why it's not working.

Mrs Fish, you've been caught out by a URL designed to stop remote embedding of pictures. (That's fair enough really, unless you own the site then it's theft of their bandwidth - I have to pay for people linking to pictures on here)
It's better netiquette to link to a site that you don't own rather than use their pictures:
Link was www.funnyjunk.com/redir.php?pic/0538.jpg
