E-Type UK, a British company that restores, erm, yep, old Jags, reckons it’s produced the highest specification Series 3 E-Type yet seen. Commissioned by an overseas customer, the left-hooker has been given the kind of restoration-modification makeover usually associated with Singer and its ‘reimagined’ 911 lineup.
Included in the 3000 hours of work on the 1974 Jaguar was a substantial engine upgrade, which has seen the original 5.3-litre V12 engine’s displacement increased to 6.1-litres. A downdraft fuel injection system has been added and is controlled by an Emerald ECU to help improve performance, while a new exhaust system allows each cylinder to breathe through its own branch of manifold. Combined, this helps the bored out unit send a dyno-proven 288hp to the rear wheels via a new five-speed gearbox.
To ensure the body can handle the boost in output, the sills have been strengthened. The chassis itself uses new adjustable suspension with stiffer torsion bars, as well as a new steering rack, while stopping is overseen by four-pot AP Racing calipers. A set of 62-spoke 16in Turino wire wheels wrapped in white wall tyres ensures that the package oozes vintage cool.
Inside, there’s an all-new leather interior, complete with XJS front seats that sit on lower mounts and include heating. E-Type UK has padded the cabin with Dynamat to keep wind and road noise low, while also enhancing the effectiveness of a new sound system that can be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
There’s no word on pricing, but given that E-Type prices have skyrocketed in recent years (see the classifieds for confirmation), we can expect a full restoration to amount to ‘a lot’. While this car’s specification will remain bespoke, E-Type UK said it would commence other projects of a similar caliber for other customers.
Given the (understandable) fuss made over Eagle's efforts with the E-Type - not to mention Jaguar's - it seems likely that the firm will have no problem locating willing buyers, whatever the cost.
