The 78th Members' Meeting, held at the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit is just around the corner. It's Goodwood's motorsport season opener, with access-all-areas and exhilarating racing all weekend. Here is everything you need to know that's new this year.
They're going off-track
Some of the toughest, quickest, most entertaining and downright scary machines ever to turn a wheel in anger are coming to compete in a two-part Rally Sprint.
These masters of gravel, ice, snow and forest trails will be showing off their asphalt skills on a special course inspired by WRC's stadium super special stages.
The torturous test of tyres will see the start-finish straight at Goodwood used in both directions, quick changes of direction at Woodcote, an entirely new way to tackle the tricky chicane, and cars coming at full speed down the pit lane!
The main tunnel, while not part of the course, will provide the opportunity for some noise appreciation among the spectators, as cars come through it on a 'road section' before their competitive runs.
To witness this spectacular display on and off-track, the Rally Sprint will run twice on Saturday 28 March and once during the day on Sunday 29 March.
A new race format
The Betty Richmond Trophy was a huge success at last year's Members' Meeting, with 60 Minis competing across two heats before the top 15 of each went on to race for outright glory in the final.
While 78th Members' Meeting does without the Mini-galore field, the hugely popular Gerry Marshall Trophy will follow the same recipe this year.
That means a total of 60 cars of a type that raced in the British Salon Car Championship in the late '70s and early '80s.
30 cars will take part in heat one and a further 30 in heat two on Saturday afternoon, before the top 15 of each heat line up on the starting grid of a grand finale on Sunday afternoon.
If you're a fan of the likes of the Rover SD1, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, Mini 1275 GT, Chevrolet Camaro Z28, and Fords in Capri or Fiesta shape, it's a weekend you simply can't miss.
Food glorious food
It's not all about the racing at Members' Meeting. The event also hosts Goodwood's biggest outdoor party with fireworks on the Saturday evening, plenty off-track games for the whole family and quirky food enclosures.
One area of the event that is all-new for this year is our artisan market area, The Pantry, over by the Lavant Straight area of the Motor Circuit. Not only will this be the perfect spot to try a variety of local produce, including mouth-watering fudge, cakes and chutneys, the Lavant Straight offers superb views of the racing.
Along with the new artisan market area, guests will be able to browse a selection of historic and modern vehicles in the new Lavant infield car park.
Ticket availability
As with all of Goodwood's motorsport events, tickets will sell-out in advance. Currently, Saturday and weekend passes for the Members' Meeting are now very limited, and likely to sell out early March. Tickets for the main race day, Sunday 29 March, will also sell out soon.
