By Matt Bird / Thursday, April 2, 2020

Name: Patrick Neighbour
Previously owned: Mini City E, 1973 VW GT Beetle, Peugeot 306, Ford Mondeo TDCI Estate, Fiat Multipla 115JTD SX Mk1, Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCI,
Currently owned: Vauxhall Zafira 1.7 CDTi.
On the shortlist: "I think I have the worst car history ever for a 'car guy' (apart from the Beetle and the Multipla) so I need a mid-life crisis car - ANYTHING will do!"

The Shed
Vauxhall Tigra
Cost: £1,490
Remaining balance: £98,510
Why I chose it: "This is my Shed, but doesn't look it. My mum had one and I thought it was quite fun. It's low miles and I would love to take it to the Festival of the Unexceptional. My kids aren't far off driving age and this could be first car territory? It's not that fast and you can't get in the back, so they wouldn't be taking friends out..."

The Brave Pill
Maserati Quattroporte
Cost: £6,999
Remaining balance: £91,511
Why I chose it: "I've always had a fantasy about buying the cheapest performance car with a 'how bad could it be?' attitude. And it could be considered my family car, right? Although I'm not sure I can get three kids in the back..."

The one still on sale
Dacia Duster
Cost: £7,120
Remaining balance: £84,391
Why I chose it: "The family car with the money I had left, and everyone is obsessed with tip runs on £100K Garage! This seems like great value, too."

Bristol Brigand
Cost: £39,950
Remaining balance: £44,441
Why I chose it: "I always love anything different and an underdog. I imagine Bristols aren't as good as their rivals and the styling isn't to everyone's taste, but that's why I love them. This is the only one on PH. I prefer other models but at least this is better looking than a Blenheim!"

Bond Bug
Cost: £11,950
Remaining balance: £32,491
Why I chose it: "You never forgot your first love. When I was 5 I had a Corgi Bond Bug and it was my favourite toy ever. Every time I see one I smile. Enough said."

Jaguar XJ 5.3C
Cost: £31,995
Remaining balance: £496
Why I chose it: "I always go back to Jaguars. To my mind the XJC is one of the best-looking cars ever made outside of exotics. This is a lot of money but it's the 5.3 and it's not my money!"
