Honda S2000 parts catalog to launch in June

New official route to order bits for Honda's screamer of a roadster will go live this summer

Honda will launch an online parts catalog for the S2000 this June, providing owners with a new route to order bits and potentially burn away hours digitally examining the innards of the much-loved roadster. Exact details as to how the catalog will be presented are yet to be revealed, but the parts it includes are likely to be extensive, as Honda is calling on owners/fans to nominate what it lists via the hashtag #S2000partscatalog. Expect no VTEC stone to be left unturned.

At this stage, the catalog site simply displays a technical drawing of an early S2000, with almost every bit - including the the internals of its four-cylinder screamer - visible. The words ‘2020.6 Expected’ suggest an obvious target launch month, and there’s a chance it’ll include accessories as well as standard bits, as teased by Honda’s S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype from December last year.

Japanese car makers have really set a precedence for the reintroduction of parts supply for hero models, with Toyota having most recently relaunched its spare parts production for the A70 and A80 Supras. Clearly it’s a growth market, especially with prices for Japanese modern classics constantly on the rise – or at least rock solid like today’s Spotted – meaning owners are now financially motivated to keep them in tip top condition. It’s also true that they don’t make ‘em like this anymore, so keeping the old legends alive is getting more and more important.

The S2000 remains an unrepeatable achievement as far as Japanese roadsters go. Yes, the ND MX-5 has ensured the survival of a paired-back two-seater today, but we’re never going to have the old VTEC magic back again. During the S2000’s decade lifespan from 1999, it switched from 2.0-litre to 2.2-litre power, with peak power produced at 8,300rpm in those earlier screamers. Even the later motor would require your foot to stay in until 7,800rpm. Those were the days…

I suspect rust repair panels are probably what they will need to sell the most of. I've seen some horrendous tin worm in these.

I have always fancied one of these - but what puts me off is the ill fitting convertible roof when it is down. The Jag XJS had the same problem - very poor design in my view and completely spoils the cars aesthetics - which is otherwise pretty good.

Silly gripe I know, but it has prevented me pulling the trigger on many occasions. Now, if Honda can provide an upgraded solution through the online parts portal - I'm in!

P.S whilst I am on the subject of gripes that I cant get over - the boot lid on the previous BMW 6 series. Horrendous carbuncle. Why on earth couldn't they slope it down along the lines of the car. Ruins the whole car for me...

The roof should go down fully, on some it stretches but does stick up a little bit. They should all come with tonneau covers though which go over this (its a manual job).

Rear arch panels will be the top of most peoples list. As said above its the rust protection which is the biggest issue.

Also some of the current part costs are ridiculous. I was quoted £8 per screw for a cover in the engine bay, not even Porsche charge that.

I'm glad more manufacturers are doing this, hopefully with Toyota producing parts for the Supra means that they might start doing the same with MR2 parts. Theres a bunch of exterior trim I'd love to buy thats been discontinued, sure it might be expensive but with certain bits you have no other choice.

Mine didn't cont with the tonneau so i went off to ebay and bought one. I have used it twice in 18 months! it did come with a hardtop though and that is great (if a little noisy).

Nice, Honda! This car is certainly worthy of preservation and, hopefully, the company's action will extend the lives of these fine vehicles.
Unfortunately, Honda doesn't offer much in terms of performance despite their heavy presence in racing. Will a Honda powered entry by Andretti really sell more CR-Vs? The NSX might be a worthy high performance car though seems to offer the excitement of sliced bread - sales clearly show that and Honda has done nothing to improve or change that. But credit again on the S2000 parts. And, if you want a really hot Honda, go with the CBR1000RR-R.

With regards to the 6 Series the reason for the boot is Golf Clubs.

Weird article. There’s already a catalogue here...

https://www.parts-honda.uk/honda-cars/S2000/2003/S...

And yes, prices are as ridiculous as expected for some bits. £614 for a rocker cover anyone?

Sold mine at the end of last year after using it for five years as a daily driver. Really was as good as it gets when you were 'on it' on a dry road and it never missed a beat of course. However during winter you had to be so cautious, it just felt like you were rolling a dice when cornering. So many unexpected tank slappers (I admit that I am not the greatest driver).
My daily driver is now a more mundane car now but much easier to work out how close you are to a crash.
The engine and gearbox of my S2000 will be missed a lot, however I have a Honda K20 in the back of another car to help with the withdrawal symptoms.
Glad that Honda are seeing fit to keep S2000s on the road, a really useable classic. Well done Honda.

The article doesn't say that it went to 2.2 litre in the UK though, does it? It says it went to 2.2 litre, with no geography stated, so it's correct.

OE panel prices are crazy though; there are some high quality repo panels being made up at a fraction of the cost on a thread on http://www.s2kuk.com/ though...mine are due in July.

Maybe it's my imagination but the leather on later cars ( 'o6 on) seemed paper thin. Also if you're about 6' the darn things are too high so you end up looking through the top third of the windscreen which itself is too high in relation to the low bonnet line - take another look at the frontal view. Then the steering wheel is non-adjustable ……………..

Those of us with S2000s may wish to know that the catalog has finally gone live in the past few of days. It was delayed due to the pandemic by over 6 months.

https://www.honda.co.jp/S2000parts/

Google's Japanese to English translation on the main page is magnificent:

Honda said:

It is a genuine part with a feeling for each one.
With gratitude to all the owners who love the S2000, we
thought about what we could do and decided to disclose the parts catalog as a means of delivering information on genuine parts.

"Please continue to ride your S2000. Know more. Love more."
