It says in the advert It was delivered from new in the ultimate V600 specification package including a close-ratio 5 speed gearbox, is that not the case then
Being a complete nerd on these, this car doesn't have the 'ultimate V600 specification' as it doesn't have the Supersports exhaust.

I know John Heffernan quite well. Lovely chap. I might point him towards this thread so he can see the mix of opinions! smile

Absolutely adore the Vantage. Went to see it at the Aston Martin London launch since my dad was connected to the Omani royal family and got invites to that sort of thing. My favourite car of all time. Thought I knew a lot about it, but have been well and truly outranked by V8LM … I guess owning one gives you the edge!

A Euromillions win would have me buying one, doing the V600 conversion if not done and adding a whole raft of modernisation things that were entirely hidden from spoiling the aesthetics.

I knew two owners. One was an Omani royal, the other was a chap near Brighton who said the electrics were a bit crap and the aluminium doors far too easily dented.

If that thing develops a genuine 600bhp I'll eat my hat

It got monstered by an Esprit V8 on Clarkson's vid. No way does it do 0-100 in 10.1s

Picture is at a slight angle, but even if it is a bit, suggest that's the least of its problems.

You'd have to have pathologically esoteric taste / really be running out of ideas to throw money away to spend half a million quid on this chintzy lash up. When the revolution comes, cars like this will absolutely be first up against the wall.

20 years form now the idea that this thing was worth anything even remotely like this will seem like a total fantasy,

It's a meathead of a car with an odd unconventional look and large over hangs but I liked them when they came out and I like it now.

Wouldn’t be far off. The engines were all tested when built, but not to the red line. At 5500 rpm (red line 6500) the last engine in a Le Mans made 518 bhp. The last V8 (in a Vantage Volante Special) made 519 bhp.

The original blueprint engine in the prototype, which was quoted at 550, made over 600 (612 IIRC).

Top trumps for us of a certain age.

Not sure how people can complain about panel gaps. It’s the beast to end all beasts.

Ghastly.

If anyone needs to know why Aston were struggling in this era, look no further.

That interior!

I love these 90's Aston beasts cloud9

Although I much prefer a standard V550, like this one:

Manual, 10k miles example for around 1/3 of the other car.

It might just be an urban myth but I believe the Cerbera was not standard it was running a full race Tuscan engine by all accounts.

For me the V600 Le Mans is the worst looking version of this car. A standard V8 Vantage 550 in a dark colour is a much better resolved car to look at. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11107669

Those of us old enough remember the Clarkson video where he described it as a "Rolls-Royce with attitude" and the sound of the twin supercharged V8 made every other car there sound rather tame.

Certainly not a good car by modern standards but still on my list of dream garage cars.
I agree 100%.
I think I’ll probably never have a V550 but a Virage is a realistic possibility.

Much better to drive than any of the magazines at the time would have you believe.
Having driven a DBS V8, 1976 V8 and a 1990 Virage in an afternoon I enjoyed the Virage the most.

I have never driven a Vantage, but can’t imagine being disappointed.

Hang on. It made a Diablo V12 sound tame? Really?

The Clarkson video in question was what F6C was refering to I belive:

Dodge Viper.
Vantage V550.
Lotus Esprit.
TVR Cerbera.
Porsche 993 Turbo.
Caterham Seven HPE.

No Diablo as it had already been beaten by the Vantage in another silly drag race.

Standing mile in:

TVR Cerbera - 31.20
993 Turbo - 32.50
Esprit V8 - 33.30
Vantage - 34.80
Seven JPE - 35.50
Viper - 35.70

Yes I just watched it again and enjoyed it just as much as I did 20 years ago.
