what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
As another reference point, the 997 pressures for 18" wheels are:
partially loaded: 33fr, 39r.
fully loaded: 36fr, 44r.
And the indication of this old PH thread is that 31fr, 37rr was being used but OPCs and specialists alike.

EDIT: I've also just noticed the instruction to check my spare tyre pressure regularly, which I have literally never done so will add that to the list.
If this tyre is 20 years old then I wouldn't recommend driving on it. I've removed my spare and leave it at home so if I do get a flat I'll just call the break down truck. Also makes the froot a bit more usable. Has anyone here used the standard jack?

Is that a capacity increase or 'just' a rebuild? Keen to follow along if you're diying it!ATM said:

Didn't he talk about a 3.7 some pages back. I get confused with who is who as there are so many owners in here. I did see someone selling a dvd on 911uk with instructions on how to rebuild these yourself. I still wanna try it but I probably never will. shalmaneser said:

They will take a bare block and machine it and insert 6 new liners. Then you can reassemble at home. You can also pay for head refurbishment. You can also get them to assemble but that starts to rack up the hours. Not sure if you have to get new pistons or they are optional with capacity increases. So maybe you could go with standard capacity and just get the liners and keep everything else as is. I think the block machining with new liners is only a few grand. Which sounds much better than 13 for the whole shooting match right?

If you’re going to the effort/cost of liners you’d be mad not to replace the pistons. Especially and the Hartech liners may well need to have pistons of a different spec/material/coating. Not an expert but I assumed pistons reusable if not scored up. Did that tv guy - wheeler dealers was it? - who made a program about Hartech, buy pistons too, I thought he just had the block machined for liners and that was that.
Yes piston are reusable if not worn/damaged and going back in to the same type of bore they were designed for. But the chance that you’ve had enough cylinder wear that it needs a rebuild but no wear on the pistons is next to zero. One of the known problems with the 996 is the pistons losing their coating.
I’ve not seen the program. But I would be amazed if Elvis reused them.

Bump up to 3.7.Sadly no time to DIY these days. I've got two other project cars that I've made zero progress with over the past year so I realised the pork would just end up joining them on the ever increasing to-do list.
Track-Powertain are doing the work but they subbed out machining and installation of the liners.

Couple more interesting cars on the market. What do we think about this
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2001-porsche-9...
Nice spec, low miles. Not sold on the Ruf mods and on the fence on the seat centres..
and
https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/14794533
Looks lovely in the pictures. Not usually a fan of savannah but I think it works against the black

The one on PH has only had 13 services in 24 yrs....these were an annual service regime car if you followed the manufacturers service schedule - this might put a small number of people off. It also had a few advisories at the last MOT (Brake lines and an oil leak) and why would you advertise a car like it with such a short MOT left? - I’d expect a new MOT on it and no advisories and also think it’s overpriced. The number plate is worth about £400 btw as that’s what they cost from DVLA https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2001-porsche-9...

I like the exterior and the seats (albeit I wouldn’t find those comfy) on the collecting cars one, that wheel and a whole host of interior bits would need changing though, the plastics look awful.
If you are looking with a ~£20k budget there’s a good 911uk car about to go on the market, I know someone was looking at it today. Let me know if you want me to point the seller in this/your direction.
