996 GT3 (first-gen): Market Watch
In scarce supply but a safe bet if you want to hold on to your money

The rarity is one of the key factors in the first GT3s retaining their value. The other is its significance of it as part of 911 history. Arriving before the 996 Turbo, the GT3 demonstrated just how capable the 996 was and the market now reflects that.
The desirability of the first-gen 996, of any GT3 in fact, makes each model easy to sell but harder to source. Every dealer we spoke to said getting hold of stock was a far bigger challenge than moving it on, such is the excellent reputation enjoyed by the cars.
Buy if: You're after a Porsche icon, and one that can be sold on easily and without losing too much.
Don't buy if: You want the best GT3 driving experience for £50,000; that's probably the second-gen 996.

Porsche GT3 996 MK1 2000 first Owner Richard Burns!!!! Most collectable example!!!
Rare and Immaculate Porsche GT3 996 MK1 2000
A unique opportunity to purchase not only a rare car, as only 106 of these were produced in 2000/1 (and it was the last of the hand built by the Weissach Motorsport factory) but the first owner was Richard Burns the No1 world champion rally driver in 2000. Sadly he died of a brain tumour aged only 35.
The original bill of sale from AFN Porsche for £83485.00 and the first V5 document to Richard Burns is complete, plus every piece of work, services, extras is logged with this vehicle.
The service history is
2001 at 3814mls,
2002 at 4090mls,
2003 at 4273mls,
2004 at 4507mls,
2005 at 4799mls,
2006 at 5569mls,
2006 at 11413mls,
2007 at 16578mls,
2008 at 20652mls,
2009 at 23870mls,
20011 at 25047mls,
2012 at 27729mls,
all stamped by Porsche plus brake fluid changes, status Reports, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, years.
There is also a lot of extra work done to this vehicle, as in upgraded links, suspension, front rear drop arms, braided brake lines, aircon rads, complete exhaust system, intake manifold, wheels, plus other not mentioned.
This car is not only in perfect condition inside and out, but it drives tight and if as new.
Has to be viewed to appreciate its value and condition.
Rare opportunity, as I know it would be impossible to find another such as this, never tracked, or used in bad weather.
However, the less frenzied approach of the 997 means the market doesn't hold it in quite as high regard as the 996s or later RS models. For proof of this, a late 996 GT3 is currently for sale at £49,500, whilst a 2007 GT3 with ceramic brakes, albeit with some more miles, is just £3,000 more.
Surely this is an overpriced/mint 996 GT3 and the 997 GT3 is not in the same condition! I don't hear people saying take a 996 GT3 over a 997 GT3! I know which I'd choose both cars being in an equally nice condition.

Either the price guidance in the article is a bit ambitious, or I have completely mis-priced mine! Given the lack of other Mk1s around, it's difficult to establish a market price...

12k miles, 2004, Porsche Cambridge
15k miles, 2005, Porsche Cambridge
20k miles, 2006, Porsche Cambridge
22k miles, 2007, ninemeister
24k miles, 2009, ninemeister
29k miles, 2011, ninemeister
30k miles, 2012, ninemeister
I also gave it an extra oil and filter change at 26k miles in 2010, carried out by RGA Porsche in London.
As ninemeister can tell you and you can see from the servicing record / receipts, no expense has been spared with this car. The A/C condensors and front radiators were replaced at the last service, which needs doing for cars of this vintage - worth checking if you're looking at other cars as it's a £1.5k job. New clutch was installed at 20k miles, so that's another job done. Tax and MOT until June 2014. The only things which someone might want to sort out are some small bubbles in the main plane of the rear spoiler (which haven't got any worse since I bought it three years ago), and the rear alloys are due a repolish / paint soon as they've started to flake around the rim. Other than that, it's in great condition.
I've done seven track days in it over the three and a half years I've owned it, just to stretch its legs. I've had no trips to the gravel trap or any "offs"! It's always run absolutely faultless.
Qualifies for classic car insurance, so I've had it on a limited mileage policy costing £450 a year, including track days.
The car was first registered in January 2000 by Porsche Cambridge on behalf of its first owner. I bought the car from my boss in June 2009, and have done 5k miles since then. My boss owned it for the three years prior to me and also covered 5k miles. He's a bit of a Porsche nut: he currently owns a 997.2 GT3 and a 964 RS amongst other things, and this was his second Mk1 GT3, so he knows his stuff and he picked this one. He bought it as an approved used Porsche from Porsche Cambridge, who sold the car when new. 3 owners prior to that. He absolutely lavished the car with attention, and I have continued!
The Mk1 GT3 was rated by evo as the no.3 Greatest Driver's Car of all time in its 100th issue. Only 106 Mk1's were ever made for the UK market, it really is a very special car. This is a fantastically well spec'ed example that has been very carefully looked after and I will be very sorry to see it go!

For years before I could afford one I knew it had to be a Mk1 Clubsport. Only 28 UK cars and that along with its rawness is a big draw for me. Awesome cars!
Just trying to organise an inspection.
