The PistonHeads Motoring Week

Yet more Geneva debuts confirmed and motorsport from across the globe in another busy week!

Fulfilled other obligations this weekend? Good, then we can return to our first love: cars. This week PH has been talking about classic motorsport, modern motorsport, new cars, old cars and a whole lot more. There's even more news on the Bond film. Catch up on everything here!

Mountain to climb
Appropriately enough there was a lot motorsport related to discuss on Monday. There was Nissan's incredible victory at the Bathurst 12-Hour, BMW's new M6 GT3 and the conclusion of F1 testing at Jerez. It was followed later in the week by confirmation of an AMG GT3, which has some big shoes to fill following the mighty SLS.

And good news for fans of old motorsport too. Jaguar has announced five events for the Heritage Challenge, including a race at the Nurburgring. Who wouldn't want to watch a field of pre-'66 Jaguars race?

Aston joined the ranks of the track only hypercars this week too with confirmation of the Vulcan. It will share Geneva show space with a new Lotus Evora and Aston's own Vantage GT3 amongst many more. It promises to be quite a show!

Hatching a plan
From Corsa VXR to Audi RS3, it's been a week crammed with hot hatches on PistonHeads. It began with yet another Leon Performance Pack, this time promising an exactly identical spec to the 'ring record car. Right down to the missing armrest. Really.

The PH review on the Cupra estate is imminent, so what better time to test its nearest rival? The facelifted Focus ST proved itself very talented and likeable in a 1,200-mile journey back from Spain, and will prove tough opposition for the SEAT. It even has infotainment that works now.

All this before news was released of the Civic Type R. There still, still isn't a full tech spec but we do know it will have a 167 mph top speed and Brembo brakes. The wait is nearly over...

That's for a few weeks off though. As for cars driven this week, there's been another hot hatch (well, sort of) with the Mini Cooper S 5-door and the latest Mercedes E400 as well.

Team PH Speaks
You don't hear about life with a V12 manual Ferrari everyday so it's little surprise to see our 612 Scaglietti Carpool received so well. Another PHer has put forward their £100K Dream Garage, plus there's now a thread where future submissions will be collected. Our favourites will still feature on the homepage!

Following the Christmas tyre debacle, life with the NotImpreza is back to rosy with Dan. It may have been matched on performance by some German alternatives but there remains plenty to like about it.

Our two picks from the classifieds this week have already amassed more than 200 comments. It would seem there are plenty of views on V8 AMG cabriolets and (relatively) cheap Rolls-Royces!

A few bright red sports cars to finish on: a Lamborghini Countach with Valentino Balboni, a man who builds Ferrari 250 GTOs and a, er, Toyota Celica. Nothing if not diverse!

Coming soon:

  • Lexus RC F versus BMW M4
  • Vauxhall Astra GTE PH Heroes
  • Mercedes-AMG C63 and C450 AMG Sport first drives
  • Big Geneva debuts from Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lotus and more!

Any chance of that pic of the GT-R at Bathurst being pic of the week? Looks stunning!
